Neutral power amp recommendations? (part 2)

You would be incorrect.

Some class D amps do not include the filter in the feedback loop. Others do. Some class D amps are zero feedback. So you're going to get different sound. The amount of feedback varies a lot too. Self oscillating class D amps have the most; typically +30dB and they usually include the filter in the loop. So a statement like this simply isn't accurate. Class D amps vary as much in sound as tube amps do. The ones with the most feedback tend to be quite immune to the reactive load of a loudspeaker!
right, my generalization was very poorly worded :) i was thinking specifically about class D designs that claim to take the filter/load interaction out of the equation with clever feedback schemes. even so I still find the class D amps i've tried to be a bit more of a crapshoot in how they'll sound with a given speaker than an old school class A design (e.g. Pass). and yes, class D amps vary a ton and you can't really generalize about them.

what class D designs are zero feedback? is that even possible without crazy distortion?

Yes it is. But due to the filter in series with the output, such amps tend to have a higher output impedance (although no-where near that of an SET tube amp) so are a bit load dependent. But on the right speaker they can be quite musical.
