Magico M7 2023

My pair of M7 was delivered today. Even in brand new condition, the sound is very warm and articulate. It is certainly a lot better than my previous M6.

M7 is a very high performance speaker, no doubt about it.View attachment 128406

As an M6 owner, would you please describe the sonic differences between the M6s and M7s? (I know you are breaking them in)

Lucky that I witnessed the "openbox" and "open-sound" of the M7 of TLi yesterday morning.













TLi will surely share with you his comparison of M7 vs his previous M6 but it really surprised me that the M7 gave a decent sound even without any break-in.

BTW the real M7 is slim and IMO much more handsome than the M9 and M6.

Nice. I was curious about comparisons to M6. And I see tubes driving them. What are the sensitivity and impedance specifications? And how low does the impedance go? I have always hoped for a more efficient speaker from Magico that would open up the amplification options. Congratulations.

The sensitivity coded by Magico for:
M9 94dB
M7 92dB
M6 91dB

M7 is not difficult to drive. Audio Note Kondo Kagura 2i can handle it with ease. Using Air Force Zero and DS Audio Grand Master Extreme combo give the best sound I experienced so far.

M6 and M7 share the same DNA, basic sonic presentation is the same. Switching from M6 to M7, I immediately notice the similarity but every HiFi parameter like resolution, dynamics, imaging and bass extension is several steps above M6. There is simply more information in the music without sounding harsh. In fact, M7 has slightly warmer midrange. Not to say M6 is not a good sounding speaker, but M7 is in every way better.

I have to give Alon Wolf my compliment for producing this excellent speaker.

At what peak SPL (dBA or dBC values, please specify) do you play when you say that Audio Note Kondo Kagura 2i (power rating at 50 W/ch) can handle the M7 with ease?

50W from Kondo Kagura 2i is certainly enough to drive M7 with ease. There is plenty of headroom.

That will depend. If your maximum listening SPL is 85 dBC, that's very different than if your maximum listening SPL is 100 dBC or higher. That is why I asked for peak SPL specifications.

4 Ohm is not an ideal impedance for a tube amp, especially one of quite moderate power delivery. The question is also if the speaker at nominal 4 Ohm impedance has some dips below that across the frequency range, which might complicate things further.

Kagura + M7 is probably quite an idea combo.

Possibly, but I would not be surprised if you cannot drive it too hard.

Better is indeed take some challenging music and open up the volume .
If every thing stays controlled and clear you re probably in the Ball park.

But what one considers loud another might turn it up a notch.

Thats nominal , surely it gets below 2 ohm along the run to home base ..!

Exactly. My speakers of 8 Ohm nominal impedance have their "worst" impedance dip to 6.1 Ohm at 172 Hz, which is still very benign for tube amps, especially since the phase angle shifts across the frequency range are very shallow and thus benign as well.

No measurements of the M7 are yet available I assume, but a 4 Ohm impedance in Magico's hands is something not to be taken for granted indeed. The Magico M2 shows an impedance dip to 2.3 Ohm, and there are not very benign phase angle shifts as well:

I was told by Kondo dealer. He has listened to two pairs of M9 driven by Kondo Kagura 2i and the result is very good.

When I met the Magico CTO last year at the Munich High End show, he informed me that the new S3mk3 has the same 88dB efficiency at 4 ohms as the S3mk2. He also mentioned that the new model is easier to drive compared to the MK2 model, as it doesn't dip as much.

Since I upgraded between the models last August without changing amplification or electronic sources, I can confirm that he was right, as the new model does feel much easier to drive with the same amps.

My speculation is that the M7 and M9 are also behaving in a similar manner, meaning they dip less than previous generations of Magico speakers.
