Hello all,
Wondering if anyone has heard the Canton Reference series, specifically I am interested in the Reference 7 (https://www.canton.us/products/type.../type/passive-loudspeakers/reference-7/04405m). Hard to find these in person for a demo....
Any info/thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers
had good midrange balance but that is where that ended. Harmonics in the lower treble and mid treble were too eager sounding after a while. Initially wowed but becomes annoying on songs that are mixed bright tilted. It isn't all gloom cos it it still decent tonal balance but I am spoiled by my home setup so anything with what I deem excess in any musical presentation becomes annoying to me. It may sound pretty good to you.

Bass thumps too long too

Thing is I prefer neutral (within reason) speakers and the Canton is sensibly balanced below the upper midrange area but is overly shimmery in the sss, ttt and tchhh regions of tone for me

IMO, you can do better with the choice but that is the problem. It is my opinion

@Kofi Baffour much appreciated! I always wondered about their known tinny/bright upper end. When you heard them what made you feel the bass thumped too long? Was it bloated sounding?

It is hard, I really would like to audition a pair. Also looking at the Sonus Faber Sonetto V G2.......

Cheers

yeah kick drum decay lingered on songs I know that are snappy during my demo and on songs I know with lingering, it become a bit much. Yes, the room is a factor but this was more than a room issue as I have heard it in a different space with better acoustics and it still lingers. I'd describe it as having sometimes a one note character to the mid bass especially.

The Canton is better than the Sonus in terms of treble excess but the Canton loses out to the Sonus Faber in the lower vocal fundamental and even first harmonic region. Snappier, tighter, more control to the bass on the V G2 but also a bit less correct sounding in the midrange. Felt hollow sounding with some honk character but that can be perceived as added snap, attack or transient.

Personally, I'd stay away from the Reference series and give the Canton Vento 100 a listen. The titanium graphite drivers sound very balanced. But be careful, the Vento 100 has decent bass. It's not suitable for small rooms; the Vento 20 genius bookshelf + good subwoofer are more suitable.
Vento 100

Vento 20

P.S a Prima Luna evo tubeamp is a good match

The Vento 100 has been on my list, it could be a top choice......I've had bookshelf but my room is big enough I feel towers give me much better response. I do run dual SVS SB2000 subs with my Rega RX5 towers, the Rega's do really well on their own. But I think its time for new towers and the SF and Canton's right now fit my budget target..

the 10 Master Edition is a large bookshelf. You can't even call it a bookshelf speaker lol and having those two SVS makes it a breeze to integrate

..the heart wants want the heart wants...LOL

So I was able to audition a set of Vento 100 with a northern CA dealer, only one I know of other than maybe SoCal but not sure. He had Vento 80 and 100 as well as the Ref 2 towers.
I will say the Ref 2 towers were fantastic sounding, a very balanced sound but for sure Canton has a focus on the lower end. The midrange and upper end was not bright or veiled, especially with female vocals very appealing.

The Vento 100 to me were excellent sounding. Similar to the Reference, a very balanced sound with a low end that was filling but very articulate in nature, I was not getting any bloat, excess or mushiness. The upper and mids were non fatiguing as well, wife and I sat and listened for about 45-50 minutes to different genres of music from Rush to Santana to Arielle Belle....

I listened to the Ref 2 and Vento 100 with same songs and I felt the 100s were about 80% of the Ref 2s.......I ordered the Vento 100 and should see them in about 2 weeks.

Speaker shopping complete....Thanks to all the comments on this thread!

Cheers

Canton Vento 100 arrived yesterday, they are in place and now going thru some burn in. Extremely happy with my decision, a fantastic sounding speaker.
