I said I would never buy another Turntable...Argh !!!

May I ask a serious question? Where is the listening position/room? Is it in the A frame behind the windows we see?

Down the mountain.

I think flat to 16 with at least 130db continous
mine are minus 3db@25 without roomgain....135db continous at 30Hz
sensitivity 92@20/100@30 and close to system efficiency 112db @95...lowpass is 75

lets get back on track
why ss and not copper, bronze, gunmetal ?
Sound quality of course but then the aesthetics would have become an issue. There’s an upper platter which can be ordered in copper, Ti or other metals if one wishes.

Imagine this in tarnished copper or gold, urrrrrgh!

Is there a consistent signature to different metals across this, techdas, etc for the platter?

Theres a base sound which is from turntable that detemines the foundation for everything the platters further tune the sound for different flavors but the basic character of AF1 remains the same.

The culture and education is no longer there and this was a very specific area where art & engineering come together. You can say that for recordings too, the old guard is gone and digital changed everything :(...

david

Some modern digital recordings are excellent sounding, surely different from the old guard, but IMHO not inferior.

The main reason for changes were time and budget constraints - it was not possible to keep orchestras working for such long recording time, sound engineers could not afford to experiment and optimize.

Art and engineering to build such speakers would still exist if there was a solid demand for such products.

Have to agree with David here.....
The stainless will look unchanged in 10, 20 or even 100 years....:)

+1

(Including some digital recordings from, gasp, DGG.)

Hi Micro,
Good & bad recordings is separate from the analog vs digital debate :)! Consumer demand is often manipulated and not always for the better in this industry and consumers wake up when it’s too late. Transistor replaced vacuum tubes and when consumer demand for the “old sound” rekindled the manufacturing base had already collapsed, same thing with horns and efficient speakers and of course the return of analog and vinyl after hostile digital takeover, what remains isn’t even a shadow of what was! Sadly the sheep are easily led and trample all...
Happy New Year!

Dave, and not forgetting when air bearing linear arms were all forsaken for those lesser pivoted arms...

;)! Actually they came much later with claimed perfect tracking and sonic superiority, of course some baaaaaught the hype but in practice real world mechanics proved challenging and often impractical, of course not say there aren’t crappy impractical pivoted arms.

ever tried true horn subs ?......was the icing on the cake in my system, even though they come in @75

Wow.....they look amazing.
Congratulations. Perhaps you could start a Thread explaining the design and construction of these beauties..?

At Munich this year, I heard for the first time....the triple-stacked BassHorns with the Avante-Garde Trios and was blown away.
Nothing is as convincing as horn-loaded bass. The 'air' is exactly what bass reproduction needs IMO.
Normal subwoofers are unnaturally 'constricted' (and I've had various pairs integrated in my system for nearly 20 years) giving deep 'punch' and filling out the frequency response, but adding nothing to the illusion of reality.
You can hear the difference between BassHorns and dynamic subs when you compare the Living Voice Vox Palladians with the Cessaro Gamma II and Avard-Garde Trios with BassHorns.

Would love to see the rest of your system.....

Re crappy pivoted arms David, my SME V at the time really did sound poor in direct comparison with my trial Terminator air arm during the trial using absolutely identical ancillaries (my tt, cart and phono at that time).
Now, I’d never call the V a crappy arm, but it was decidedly second rate in comparison.

I came from AG Trios with custom BR matrix cabinets with 4x15 from Bert Doppenberg in NL
poor drivers and poor filters led me to experimenting with TADs supertweeters etc
finally all that was left was a magnetic frame and some resonnant plastic horns....

the pictures of my journey from AG Trio can be seen on this Norwegian forum
