I have lots of CD's and I have downloaded some of the 'HiRes' formats of the same music from HDTracks with hit and miss results.
Can anyone point me to a post/posts or recommend some recordings that provide a nice uptick in sonics?

Try downloading and listening to the newest sampler, the “HDtracks 2020 Hi-Res Sampler” - it’s free! Except for track #15 which is really distorted and pedal-to-the-metal loud, the rest have been eclectically selected and a joy to listen to. Since subscribing to TIDAL in 2019, my purchases of hi-Rez downloads have dropped to zero from ~100/yr. Have been slowly re-entering the market after carefully narrowing choices to exceptional recordings, or those which were not available on TIDAL which I’ve assessed to be worthwhile owning - only two titles (so far) during the past 16 months. For the female jazz vocalist genre, one particular title which I thought was exceptional - Good Old Times, by Simone Kopmajer, in 24/176, which was flatter and drier on TIDAL (so I wanted the real organic originals). For the “audiophile” genre - Audiophile Analog Collection Vol.2, by 2xHD, in both DSD128 and 24/352 (curious to hear both versions).

The Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Wonder albums all sound excellent and are upgrades to Redbook. Many of the Elton John offerings are also very good.

As a rule of thumb, if it's a new album, go for the hi-res, specially if it's jazz/classical.
If it's an older, analog-sourced rock album for instance, you're likely better with a first pressing CD.

So far, I've found 24/192 Jonis worth the purchase, I agree with asiufy, that early rock and Jazz are not worth it (Thriller and KOB for instance)
A really solid investment, when available are Hires albums on the ECM label, esp 24/192 Koln Concert. Haven't purchased an ECM that wasn't significantly better than redbook. ECM is a company whose ethos should be emulated by all labels, IMO.
