"If you have a small to medium sized room with acoustics issues and large conventional treatments aren’t an option, you may want to take a look at Gradient’s Helsinki 1.5 Speakers. This very unusual looking open baffle speaker is designed specifically to work in smaller spaces and essentially ignore room mode problems via ingenious driver arrangements, rather than brute force digital signal processing."circa $6500

Perhaps you remember the Gradient subs?

I haven't heard these but I did get to spend an hour or so with their big brothers in active form. Very open sounding loudspeakers albeit I found the bass a bit loose in that set up. For the money though, I thought the sound was really, really good. Slap on a CDP with a volume control like the Ayon and you're good to go. I was told by the dealer that the Helsinkis are harder to set up but worth the effort.

Eeek. I have never been a fan of side firing woofers due to the end result as to what hits your ears but to combine this along with aesthetics that are.....well, to be desired?
