Has anyone heard the Devialet D-Premier Integrated Amp/DAC

have you checked the Devialet volume ? I'm using jRiver and I can also change the volume using the jRiver volume slider. But it is changing the volume of the Devialet itself, so it is still bit perfect.

Is that jriver mac ?

According to the Audirvana manual:

Volume Knob: There are three types of volume control, depending on the device
capabilities, and the user preferences:
- Master (red cursor): the device provides a remote volume control feature that is
inside the DAC and normally of optimal quality. See your DAC user manual for
this.
- Digital (blue cursor): typically digital volume control at the device driver level, so
still in the computer, with potential associated resolution loss. Should typically be
set at 0dB to ensure bit perfect output.
- Dithered (green cursor): volume control computed by Audirvana Plus, with
dithering to strive to maintain the best possible sound quality for this digital type of
volume control.

What I get using Air2 is the blue cursor; using Audirvana wired to the Devialet, I get the red cursor. I can change volume using either the Audirvana screen or the Devialet volume control. Thus, I'm suspicious about the Air/Audirvana interaction in the matter of bit perfect resolution.

Devialet told me in Munich not to bother with different power cables. And I certainly wouldn't use Naim which is specifically designed for their own equipment

In that none of the premium power cords will allow the cover to fit, it makes sense that Devialet would suggest not bothering since they did not bother to provide space for a better cord. I'm not sure that negates the benefit of a better cord. I use a Cardas Clear, shaved down a bit to allow the Devialet cover to fit. The newer version of the Cardas Clear, with a bulkier connector at the amp end may not be suitable for alteration.

Have askt Devialet by mail and was just getting some svada

i Have tried different power cables on the Devialet,(some good once and some not so)but none of them did fit under the cover

Is it one thing i think most of the Devialet owners agree on is it a change of the power cable, and the naim Powerline cable is a superb one :) but dont fit :(

The Furutech FI-15 plug will almost fit and enable you to replace the cover. It just catches on the right hand side of the plug (as viewed from the rear) because of the raised ridge on the edge of the cover. I suspect a bit of judicious filing might solve that.

The Furutech FI-15 will take cables up to 15mm diameter.

Those with expertise might glean something from page 4 of the attached document:

FWIW, Paul Miller used the Devialet with a PS Audio PPP in his hugely supportive review in Hi Fi News.

Just had an email from Devialet:

"The software team responsible for Air just discovered a bug in the buffer management which gets corrupted as time increases. So what you experience at home (no problem during a couple of minutes and increasing problems after) is expected with the current version of Air. This shall be fixed before my venue (visit) to Oxford next week."

So that is good news.
Hey Ian!

Did you hear anything concerning buffer management problem the last days from Devialet by mail? I now wrote a comment directly on the helpdesk from Devialet - here. Not even the dealers are informed of the bug as I could establish yesterday. It is not a non good trouble management so far concerning some official information - it is no trouble management at all. In my view the money you pay for a Devialet is enough to include a much better service in kind of (home-made) trouble - for the purpose of user information. For what else do they have btw the eMail adresses of the users for example?! Would be no more than pressing a button.

Hi to all!

First post here on this forum although I have been reading this topic for some while. I too own a Devialet D-Premier and experience the drop-out issues and have reported those to Devialet (see second quote below).

I was happy to read IanG-UK's post that mentioned Devialet has acknowledged the issue and that they are working on a corrective update. This has also been confirmed by Thierry (which a lot of us will probably have communicated with in the past) on Facebook (see first quote below).

The downgrade to 5.7.3 works but I've read that some people had problems downgrading the D-Premier to 5.7.3 but it looked as if they forgot that they have to powerdown the D-Premier first (remove the AC plug) and boot it with the 5.7.3 upgrade files on the SD card.

Anyway, hope that Devialet fixes these issues soon. Up until today I have only received a confirmation of my support case and a short reply that they're looking into the problem and will get back to me a.s.a.p.

If I hear anything that may help those with the hiccup issues I'll let you know.

Dear Philip,

Thanks for your message. We are working real hard on the corrective update. We will release it as soon as we possibly can.

Best regards,

Thierry

Dear Devialet,

I've reported the issue earlier but I will do again after reading the 'The new Devialet AIR help' article. I will supply you with all the requested information in that article.

Devialet D-Premier, serial number: x, AIR 2.0, firmware 6.0.6. WiFi strength steady around -21/22dBm.

Computer is a dedicated "NAS" PC (fully updated (BIOS, drivers, windows update, software):

OS:Windows 8 Professional (64 bit)
Case: Lian Li PC-A04, mATX
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H77M-D3H S1155 H77 4xDDR3 mATX
CPU: Intel Pentium G630, 2.70GHz, 3MB, HD1000, S1155
Memory: Corsair ValueSelect 8GB(2x4GB) DDR3 1333MHz CL9
Disks: 2 x 3TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 in RAID 1 mode
no keyboard, mouse, screen or USB devices connected

All music (CD rips) is stored on the NAS PC as ALAC files, mostly 44.1kHz, 16 bit. Ripped using dBPowerAMP.

Network setup:

- NAS PC connected wired to TP-Link gigabit switch, set to 1gbit/s, full duplex
- ASUS RT-N66U WiFi router (latest firmware: 3.0.0.4.370_172)(configured as N-only access point, channel 6, 20MHz channel, best channel according to InSSIDer) connected to same TP-Link gigabit switch)(set to 1gbit/s, full duplex, dedicated network)
- Fritz!Box 7360 ADSL router (latest firmware: FRITZ!OS 05.51) connected wired to same TP-Link gigabit switch. (all unneccesary functionality like WiFi, uPnP, telefony etc. disabled)

- The Devialet D-Premier connects wireless to the ASUS RT-N66U accesspoint.
- Remote control using iPad 3, connected wireless to ASUS RT-N66U accesspoint.

All devices have an IP address in network 192.168.1.0/24. (DHCP server=Fritz!Box)

WiFi noise (reported by ASUS RT-N66U) varies between -84dB to -88dBm.

PC setup:

Power management -> maximum performance
installed AIR2.0 using 'run as administrator'
default settings Devialet AIR2.0 (WASAPI bit perfect disabled, switch never, 16 bit, 44.1kHz)
reboot PC
disabled all running programs, background programs

Turned of iPhone and TV (which also has a WiFi and BlueTooth interface) so no other devices are active on my network.

Restarted all network devices before testing.

Issue:
Regardless of chosen buffer size music plays fine for a number of songs. After about 15 to 20 minutes dropouts start to occur (silent hiccups shorter than I think half a second). These dropouts occur more often over time while playing.

After restarting the AIR2.0 client everything works fine again for 15-20 minutes then again dropouts start to occur. Restart AIR eveything is fine again etc. etc.

Tested with both iTunes 11.0.2/3 and 4 and J River Media Center 18.0.194. In all the issue occurs.
Experimented with the process priorities of AIR2.0 (highest and realtime): no effect.

AIR 1.5 has always worked fine in my setup. Downgrading to 1.5 and firmware 5.7.3 immediately resolves the issue: no more hiccups/dropouts.

Hi

I have heard nothing more personally from Devialet. There has been nothing put on the website by Devialet. As far as I know Devialet has not briefed dealers. Not good.

I suppose there are legal complications for a manufacturer who advertises a certain capability for a product and then discovers the product does not work as claimed. Liability issues with dealers--and customers---arise from overt admission of error. Brings to mind the Apple iPhone antenna problem of a year or two ago. In the U.S. Chrysler is refusing to recall vehicles that a government agency says may have fuel tanks that burst into flames in certain circumstances. Hmm.

It would be easier for all - including Devialet - to communicate the bug on the website, with their distributors/dealers and users (e.g. as a service round mail), than to have contacts with various users by single and so personally written mails. That would be an adequate measure and a good way for holding or even building confidence instead of spreading uncertainty or ill humour too.

I agree with what you said there Nightmare. Devialet would make life a lot easier for themselves if they just communicated with the customers in a straight and open way. And also if they didn't leak stuff like that a new firmware is coming out weeks ahead of when it's due and then set five different deadlines and break them all. Don't say a word and just update the website when it's out instead and save themselves tons of trouble with annoyed customers.

Lol, so in an attempt to normalize everything again, I went back to Air 1.5 and 5.7.3. The app on the iPhone/iPad no longer works with the older versions!

If they knew how to operate and communicate appropriately in such a situation and how to keep users in line instead of anger them they would have react - at the very latest - after my comment right on the Devialet's site. But they did not at all. Keeping still seems to be their intercourse. Bad idea. But not the only ones, of course. Other brands react right in the same way. High end unfortunately without 'High' service.

... well it would have been had they delivered on their promise. "Before my visit to Oxford" = Tuesday. Visit to Oxford = Wednesday. Today = Thursday. Still nothing. No update on website. No email. No new 6.0 or 2.0. Poor service.

I did the same and found out the same. To use the old Remote app you'd have to restore the old 1.2 version (an IPA file of the app on your harddrive). Normally apps you upgrade are deleted but 'saved' in your 'recycle bin'. Unfortunately I once set that up to delete everything immediately. Maybe yours is still there.

Totally agree, Devialet doesn't seem to understand that these poor communications and repeatedly breaking promises hurts their own business.

I did find a tweet by Oxford Audio. They acknowledge a fix is on the way.

@HPetter @DEVIALET There's a fix on the way; we have to be patient; it is less frustrating to downgrade to 5.7 and AIR 1.5 till it's sorted

(...) it is less frustrating to downgrade to 5.7 and AIR 1.5 till it's sorted
Less frustrating would have been to remove the update from the site and open handling as soon as they have been aware of the problem. That is weeks ago.
Maximum frustrating is, that they still let users run into the update trap and a senseless workaround that suggests to solve the problem, which it does not due to the bug.
