Gryphon PowerZone 3

I started recording after 270 hours of burn-in. From what I hear in my room, it has an advantage over shunyata. Shunyata calmed down the sound a lot, almost too much. I did not notice any positive effect of the Altair ground conditioner. The background hasn't changed anything at all. I wonder how this device works. As for the Powerzone, I added Vanta cables to it and the sound calmed down significantly. the cables did not negatively affect its performance, rather they eliminated all unnecessary sharpness after using the PZ3 in the system. we'll see what happens next. Gigawatt Powermaster is scheduled to come to me for a test tomorrow. It is the top model of this manufacturer. We'll see what it brings to my system.
CMG:similar experience on change from stock/Cardas Clear Beyond to Vanta power cables.

My suggestion for the power zone is to pair it with a Stealth 2020 cable and for a final tweak place Stack Audio AUVA footers directly under the feet.

I received the PowerZone for review and it is in the system now.

Hmm, I had a hugely positive experience with my Altairas. Lowered the noise floor significantly.

I did a little experiment. I used Gryphon Vanta cables the whole system to the Gigawat PowerMaster conditioner and the sound improved tremendously. Vanta cables are really good starting from the power supply and ending with the speaker cables. Next week I will publish a video with the whole set but with PZ3. Greetings to everyone on the forum.

Has anyone tried non-megabuck power cords with the PZ3? I.e., < $3k? If so, I’d like to hear what you thought. Thanks. - David

For me the powerzone improved and energized my sound experience but it did not change sound signature of my powercords per se . I have few AAI (Eastern European company) power cords that msrp for around 5-6k , and few Nordost frey 2 , and lastly new much smaller brand called spiritual sound (pure silver ) great price point 3-4k per power cord; spiritual sound sounded the best but they also sounded the best without power zone ; I did have to use Pangea 200$ power cords for a bit while I loaned my spiritual sound cables to a friend and that was a huge drop off .

Interestingly with strom tank the power cord quality does not create as much of a delta ;( but I much prefer power zone over Stromtank )

I'm using it with Furutech DPS-4.1 and while it can certainly be bettered I'm still getting plenty of benefit from the PZ.

I’m using a STEALTH Dream 20-20 with the PZ and it outperformed other cheaper cables (200-2000 Euro price range). And the difference was huge, sonically speaking.

The better the power cord, the better the PowerZone responds.
Sad but true.

Most all filters perform much better when you feed them good power. As in, you have the electrical at the house as well done as possible. Noise and good power delivery are 2 different things. Think about it. Why would a power cord to a filter make a big difference. If it does, it is going to respond to the walls in the wire as well. And to the panel that feeds it, as well as the electrical service and grounding at the home.

If I understand correctly, the PZ is a bit different because it doesn't have any traditional RLC filters, so I don't believe it relies on a shunt to ground for noise performance - the elements are purely inline. So ground impedance may not be as much of a factor for its conditioning performance as with traditional filters. That said your point still stands - power delivery and noise conditioning are separate issues. Lower resistance/impedance not only helps current delivery but generally leads to lower noise, which is I guess why the Stealth cords are almost 0AWG and impractically huge...

Funny. Taking a O awg cable and plugging it into a duplex that is fed by 40 feet of #12.
I know cables have color. I think a lot of it has to do with geometry. As well as the material its made of. And is it jacketed with a shield.

Gryphon makes good stuff. I bet they have thought about the most common noises that are in the electrical utility and created a good product to mitigate them. Maybe as good or better than the other major brands out there. I just find it amusing that with so many power conditioners comes the claim that for best results, use a power cable that may or may not cost more than the power conditioner itself.

Agree with you. It doesn’t make sense. But I always experienced better results feeding these power conditioners/regenerators with a better power cords. PS Audio PowerPlants (P12, P15 and P20 too), Puritan PSM156 and lately the Gryphon PowerZone. I also use a Schnerzinger Allocator (power strip) that only comes with its own power cord fixed (I suppose because they want an adequate cable to get the expected performance).

I remember you were on the Schnerzinger bandwagon a while back. Where are you now. As in, Schnerzinger or Gryphon? Are you blending the 2. Or are you more in the camp of a loom of Schnerzinger. Or just a Gryphon?

50-50 so to speak. On the front wall rack (MSB DAC and Amp) I have the PZ. While on the side wall rack (MSB DD and sources) I have the Allocator.

I have a Shunyata Everest not X but last release. I was able to compare directly to a powerzone and i preferred the powerzone. Its not huge but certainly adds an overall clearer picture. Power cables are Sigma V2.

The tough thing about evaluating the PZ is it seems to continue to improve a system the longer it has it settle in. You definitely get a bunch of benefit up front, but it seems to make things more and more refined for weeks, maybe even months. I still need to run the test of pulling it out of the system to verify this though - I mostly use comparisons to my non-PZ system which is straightforward and doesn’t get tweaked much.

I am envisioning this whole power cord thing like putting a leash rated for the strength of a Rottweiler onto a poodle, and thinking the poodle will become a malinois.
It is sort of like jewlery for the dog to give it a look.

But I am probably along in those thoughts.
