DSD Battle Royale!

I had a chance to hear the Grimm LS-1 and Mola Mola systems at RMAF this weekend. Very impressive - I understand all of the kudos and praise headed their way.
But the pricing on those systems is pretty steep - especially if you took the Stereo systems being shown and tripled those costs for 5.1 Surround. Ouch!

But having also heard the Horus, if Pyramix is looking at the rumored 2 card box and a pro-sumer offering, it would be above the cost of today's audiophile Surround Sound options (the Mytek 3-Stack & exaSound e28) but it would be quite tempting. Maybe we will hear more on that at AES in New York later in the month.

What's the pricing on those?

Thanks Bruce and look forward to the outcome, please count me in, on this project too.
Best,
Neville

Ok... here it is.
5 Converters at DSD64fs and 3 converters at DSD128fs. I do have a DSD256 recording of the same and will put up later.

I'll post more files later.

Thanks for posting these Bruce. I just took some time to listen to these and the good news is they all sound good.:D In order of preference.

1. 128fs 004
2. 64fs 004
3. 64fs 005
4. 128fs 001
5. 64fs 003
6. 64fs 002
7. 64fs 001
8. 128fs 005 this one sounds like it's mixed in mono and is not as appealing.

Least favorite is 64fs 001 of the ones not mixed in mono. The rest are pretty close to each other except the top 2 on my list. 128fs 004 is the clear winner on my rig. 64fs 005 is very good and close to 64fs 004. The vocals on 128fs 004 are the clearest of the bunch. Has the best realism. 64fs 004 sounds very similar but not quite as clear.

I still need to listen to these at a more realistic volume to be sure. Can't do it tonight.

.

Thanks Sean.... don't think any are mixed in mono. I did these all yesterday with each converter.
I was using the tape that we were going to use for the Madrona meeting.

Strange. 128fs 005 the guitar and vocals are center stage. The rest of the files are guitar left of center and vocals right of center.

Ok, I listened some more tonight with the correct 128fs 005 file. The differences are pretty subtle between all the files. Another difference I think I'm hearing is the quality of the reverb trails on the vocals. I think 128fs 004 may be more accurate but 128fs 005 is more natural sounding. Impossible to say without hearing the tape feed as well. I'm putting 128fs 005 up near the top.

Well, I've listened to the five DSD64fs . . . they all sound outstanding, Bruce.

Always seemed to prefer whichever one to which I was listening at the moment. Maybe a slight preference to 002 . . . I will give them another listen later.
