Wondering why the DSD download and FLAC downloads are the same price?

Does DSD spec define the filter or is it up to the designer/manufacturer of the DAC?
Curious - Don

The SACD Scarlet book defines how much UHF is allowable, but it's up to the manufacturers on what filtering they use. Playback Designs uses a very gentle filter, whereas Weiss has a very steep filter.

As I've said before, some DAC's allow you to change the filter.

Thanks Bruce. Though I have a DSD-capable player, and a couple of SACDs and DSD files, I have not really messed with them. Haven't even dug into what the Oppo does with them... I suppose somebody has already thought of doing a nice analog linear-phase filter and marketing it as the zero-distortion solution, no active components to add noise and distortion, etc. One interesting thing I did not terribly long ago in a similar situation was to use a low-order linear-phase filter to give some initial roll-off, then a higher-order filter set a couple of octaves up so passband effects were minimized. Only works with oversampling, natch, and only if you have an OSR of maybe 4 - 8 or more.

Count me in too but having a DSD Dac that only does DSD64 is like having a PCM Dac that only does 24/96. I am much more interested in DSD128 and wish all new efforts would include, but not be limited to this format.

In the next coming weeks, I will be uploading DSD files from 5 different converters. You get the pick the best sounding one. There are no losers. All of these converters will best the converters of just a few years ago. The below converters need no introduction. You may have heard about their merits here or over at SA-CD. Now, you get to make the definitive call.
I will be doing master tape transfers of 3 different genres of music from a modified Studer A80RC MkII through a Doshi tape pre. To make the playing field level (because of the Grimm), all recordings will be done at DSD64fs. Later I may put 1 or 2 files up of 128fs and 256fs.

From top to bottom:

Modified Korg MR2000s BLK
Modified EMM Labs ADC8 IV
Ayre QA-9 and Mytek Stereo 192/DSD DAC
Merging Technologies Horus
Grimm AD1

What say ye??

Why don't you replace the Grimm AD1 with your new Tascam DA-3000 and do all your recordings at DSD128? Unless you are trying to sell DSD64 music to a larger audience why would anyone record vinyl, tape or live performances at DSD64 when DSD128 is better.

Anyway count me in.
