I have NO axes, opinions, experience, etc. in reference to Stillpoints. My only Stillpoint knowledge is what I read.

Peter, remember that almost ALL Seismic Sinks cannot support an amp ( too heavy). It takes a model designed for an amp, and these are more than rare on the used market....
I was actually using a Seismic Sink under my TT...and for any years, it was a nice improvement. However, I have now taken it away, as my updated LP12 uses the new Trampolin 2 base.The combo was actually
not that impressive....too much isolation??

BTW, anyone here using Combak Harmonix---I like these devices a lot and have them under all of my digital gear.

DaveyF, my friend's amps are small tube amps which I don't think are very heavy. Certainly not like my 150 lb Pass Labs brutes. He reports positive results with these very old, bladder type Seismic Sinks under his amps. Perhaps these are designed for a heavier load. I don't know the ratings of the Sinks, but the seller told me they could handle over 40 lbs. I have five Sinks on my rack. Four (pre, phono, two power supplies) for 20-30 lbs and one (power conditioner) for 40+ lbs.

I don't think there is actually any horizontal motion of the speaker. Think of it as a heavy object rested on a four balls vibrating vertically . The vertical motion compress the balls and create movement of the ball in the horizontal plane. This movement dissipates the (vibration) energy.

I tried six Ultra 5s in my system for a month. The top and bottom sections do slide horizontally relative to each other. Perhaps less so when loaded by a 300 lbs speaker.

Peter A, IF I remember correctly, the standard bladder type Sink (which I also own) can only support about 35-40+ lbs max. Townsend did manufacture a special version that was "heavy duty" and could support up to +- 100 lbs. This amp version was a different dimension and was considerably more costly. However, I wouldn't recommend the standard version as an amp platform....I think you would be probably stressing the bladders with most amps out there. ( The Mola Mola's maybe being the exception )

HEAT- very important question. The Stillpoints company explains: "Vertical vibration is transferred to horizontal motion and the vibration energy is converted to heat."

You don't need to measure conversion to heat, though you could. Simply put, what they claim is basic Physics 101 - preservation of energy: energy cannot be lost, only converted to another form. In this case, mechanical to heat.

For me however the more important issue was Peter's comment (on which I agree) that horizontal movement of a speaker is not a good thing.i wish I could tell you why i had that magic moment with Ultra 5's under my speakers and subs but just an OK moment under my amps

Movement in the horizontal plane cannot possibly be good for speakers, it's the same problem as if using casters. Perhaps the weight of your speakers affords no such movement in your case, but in general, an unwanted attribute for speakers.

Call it what you will and I must admit that PeterA makes a valid point however having had these Ultra 5's under my speakers for the past 6-8 months and now under my Fathom subs if there is horizontal movement all I can say is that I won't part with these under my speakers or subs.

Further I received my second shipment yesterday of six more Ultra 6's that I placed under left and right channel of my amp and there is no doubt in my mind that the 6's were designed with heavy components in mind because these aren't going anywhere

Again the biggest improvement for my ears with 6's vs 5's is resolution and precision of imaging

I got word today that my Shunyata Triton V2 will ship tomorrow

I agree 100% rockitman. I have many of the Ultra SS's and the Ultra 5's. One thing is absolutely for sure: There is NO vertical movement whatsoever. The bottom part of the ultra will move horizontally relative to the top section. But it is an infinitesimal amount of movement and when the bearing is loaded it does not move.

I don't know how the Stillpoint's work but they do work - especially under certain speakers. IMO and it is only an opinion: The reason this product works has absolutely nothing to do with horizontal movement.

Shunyata Hydra Triton V2 Initial Thoughts...........Second Coming Of......

I've often wondered why, if I have a piece of gear that is absolutely perfect in every way and has made such a dramatic improvement in my sound system could be truly made better than what it already is. Well that is how I felt about the Shunyata Hydra Triton that has been an integral part of my system for the past year. Well along comes Caelin Gabriel of Shunyata with his newest Hydra, the Triton V2.It arrived today by UPS and as always packaged perfectly.

Same dimensions as the V1 and the face plate is identical as the V1 but here are a few photos. The black chassis BTW is slightly darker than the V1 but sitting on top of the Typhon shows only the new color







So what about the sound. Well here are some preliminary thoughts..........

The Dynamics and transients are absolutely explosive.......

The bottom end has likewise risen another notch. I don't know how you do it Caelin but here is my final initial thought.....

Once again when I play known tracks from my demo disks I feel that the volume is much louder than that to which I am accustomed. The best way I can describe it is that the sitting position has moved forward significantly to where it feels I am dead center 10 rows back from the stage

I have many demo disk that I use but so far this afternoon I have been listening to a demo disk for "bass" and bottom some of which has been classical in genre and the sound stage although unchanged as to the proverbial more depth and width, what I was hearing was more body to the soundstage. The orchestra's literally came alive.

Many of the really low bass was once again at another level. Bear in mind that my Lamm ML3 Signature amp is 30 WPC. Today I was hearing explosive bass such that when I came downstairs for dinner my wife said she has never heard bass emanate from my room like it did today.

This is right out of the box. My anticipation is that this will only continue to get better with some burn in.

Kudos Caelin, you have hit another home run. IMO no sound system would be complete without a Triton. Now having heard the V2, you have my head shaking once again. The sound is as clean, clear, dynamic and real as I've heard in my system

By powers of magnitude.....yes.

Caelin suggested in a post here a few months ago that the sonic improvement of the V2 over the V1 was like adding a Typhon. The upgrade is really that good IMHO

Steve, did you ground any of your equipment to the V2 yet?

I forgot one very important and noticeable upgrade in the V2 and that is the AC receptacles. I have 10 Furutech Rhodium Gold AC duplexes in my room and once the power cord is in, the grip is amazing. I found the initial version of the Triton to have very good AC receptacles but the cords always looked as if they were slipping. Such is not the case with the V2. IMO they grip the power cord as good as the Furutech Rhodium Gold that I have
