'Elektra' - Director's Cut

I've watched this on DVD many times and just purchased the Bluray. The picture is excellent and the sound is much improved. AND ---Jennifer Garner is HOT on VHS, DVD, Bluray or any other medium!!

-----Mmm... I don't think I have that one in any of my movie collections (no VHS, no Laser Disc, no DVD, no Blu-ray, and no Video Download). ...But I have an idea why is that. :b

And I saw that Blu-ray Special Edition (Director's Cut with 3 minutes longer!) from FOX studios for only five to ten bucks often at all the video stores.

NorthStar: See what you missed: It was fun (for me) entertaining (to me) and had two attractive women -- how many more reasons does one need to watch a movie? Thin plot, questionable acting but fun nonetheless!

My ONLY motive for watching any movie is to be entertained. MANY of the movies that Hollywood thinks are terrific I find otherwise. In fact, MANY of the movies Hollywood pans are those I most enjoy. I don't care how "artsy" the movie is, or who stars in it or what agenda Hollywood is trying to stuff down my throat, if it isn't entertaining, I don't enjoy it. And if I know a bit about the movie before hand, I I get to choose whether I watch it or not.

Fortunately for me, there are a LOT of movies that I find incredibly entertaining (old and new) ---- regardless of what Hollywood (or anyone else) thinks. And that's one of the many advantages of a home theater. I get to watch what I want and when I want at very reasonable pricing. Two tickets, two pop-corns and two drinks is always more than the cost of purchasing any DVD or Bluray. What a great hobby!!!

...Next time I see 'Elektra' - Director's Cut on Blu-ray at my local Walmart store I will buy it (should be no more than ten bucks anyway).

The other day, got into the mood for some more Batman and pulled out a 1997 Batman and Robin on DVD from my rack. Watched it with the whole family and my son, who was only 2 on its release, was wondering why it was kind of funny when compared to the Dark Knight series, specially since we just watched Dark Knight Rises a few weeks ago. I must admit it was like watching it the very first time as I had practically forgotten all scenes except Mr. Freeze freezing everyone at the beginning. What a difference a director and an actor makes. Schumacher vs Nolan. Clooney vs Bale. Non-serious vs serious. My teen son commented that even Bane in Batman and Robin was no that menacing.

Watched Contagion last night on HBO on demand. It has major stars in it such as Matt Damon and is directed by Steven Soderbergh. Sadly, it was a major disappointment. It is a slow actionless plot and has little excitement or surprises. It is the classic virus outbreak except that it never feels like one. They talk about millions of people catching it yet life goes on. Then all of a sudden there is mayhem in streets that should have happened well before that. It really feels like someone took a great plot and got rid of whatever ups and downs that would make it exciting.

Mind you, it passes the time but that is about it.

Like many people (members) here, I do enjoy life for its simplicity and fun of it.
...Not always but often. ...And I did enjoy that flick. :b
Of course, it is not realistic, and it has many plot holes, but nonetheless, it is after all a Luc Besson's script, and the main actress, Zoe Saldana (you might have recognized her from other flicks; 'Takers', 'The Losers', 'Avatar', 'Star Trek', 'Vantage Point', 'The Terminal', 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl', ...), is delightful to watch.

My own score:

- Movie value: For FUN = 3.25 (out of 5)
- Photography quality (Visual): With Camera work = 4.25
- Auditory Sound quality (Aural): With Music score = 4.00
- Acting: Well, here it don't matter at all.
- Everything else: Ephemeral.

*** My final verdict: Rent the Blu-ray.
...Me I bought it but it's me (buying/renting; it's pretty much the same to me anyway).

"Anonymous Shakespeare", excellent speculative historical yarn, sort of a Tudor "Chinatown". She's my sister, (slap), She's my daughter (slap) She's my sister (slap) She's my sister AND daughter (slappity slap slap slap).

"The Tempest", Disney remake with Hellen Mirren as Prospera(o). Nicely done, gorgeous filming on volcanic island. Sir John Gielgud did a version of the Tempest a few years ago with rampant, extravagant nudity of the fore and aft variety and continental sensuousness that was pretty interesting, too.

Watched DVD's on Sony HMZ T1 OLED headset, which I seem to be doing a bit lateley.

1. This is a kid's movie (between the ages of 9 & 15).
2. I CANNOT stand the shaky camera work!!! It gives me real bad headaches!
3. I felt asleep about forty minutes into the film! ...I was bored to death!
4. That's it; I don't even know what happened after that (I went to bed),
and I'm not interested to find out either! NEVER!

As for Picture & Sound quality: Who cares!
