Orb,
It is terrible, :) almost all the reviews of the Vivaldi revealing its excellence are now accessible online. And, curiously they all share common lines on the main aspects of the subjective description of the sound quality - the reviews are much more unanimous that usual. But what worries me most is that I also have found these qualities them when listening to DCS top models!

Just got the new Stereophile, Jan '14. The Vivaldi stack made the front cover.
Looks like Mikey did the review.

Have you heard it? Sorry if I should know this...just curious. I have heard it and a lot of other digital as well, but I have likely heard less digital in a truly controlled environment (like a sound studio) than you have.

I have not heard it in my system, only the Scarlatti. I have heard it in many others thought. Never failed to impress.

I always respected Scarlatti but could not love it. I have heard it sound amazing in a friends system...but I decided when I had a chance to trade for it, that it still love the Zanden. But the latest generation...Vivaldi, and I suspect Trinity, Light Harmonic...could well be ahead, particularly with hi-res.

I have been told that David Wilson is now using a DCS Vivaldi in his system. I did not like to know about it - for a longtime he owned my preferred CD player in an all ARC system, the CD8. But it seems DSD and HiRes PCM could finally move the CD8 away- it is regrettable that the CD9 does not have native DSD.

He's been using DCS for his show demos for at least a couple of years now.

I think Dave used the Vivaldi at RMAF. Bruce would know.

Funny, many manufacturers used the Scarlatti at shows too; why escapes me.

Yes, the Wilson room at the Hyatt was using Vivaldi. From my perspective easily the best sound of the show.

The Alexia/VTL room also had the Vivaldi stack but when I was there they were playing vinyl; why escapes me.

When I was there in October, Dave was still using an ARC system.

Maybe I was there :)

Some months ago we debated ad nausea a Michael Fremer's comment about a digital sourced vinyl recording sounding better than the digital playback of the original files. After of hundreds of posts we could not agree or have a definitive answer from the author on it.

But now, in the middle of the review of the Stereophile DCS Vivaldi we can find it the solution. Buried in delicious paragraph about vinyl euphonic colorations he explains it all.

BTW, IMHO this Vivaldi review has material enough to fill our threads for longtime! I hope that WBF members do not miss it - remember MF used it for a full week and did not seriously miss his analog. ;)

Great photos...which system did you hear? Thanks for any specifics about what you heard, even I understand you cannot pinpoint which component was doing what.

Vivaldi is on display at the swedish audio store Audio Concept in Stockholm. To many unknown parameters for me, so I can´t give any conclusions about the sound specifically from Vivaldi, but overall it was stunning.

(picture hotlinked from Euphonia Audioforum and calm took the pictures).

What fabulous photos of fabulous kit.
It would be great if YG and DCS could get together and demo that at next year's Munich High End Show

Another great article on the DCS Vivaldi system. Curiously the system used comes from the "alternative" school of thinking - a great source, "small" amplifier and speakers : the DCS Vivaldi, Ancient Audio tube monoblock amplifiers and the old Sonus Faber Amator I .

great article, great read. Thanks for that. I do think some older components really are truly sota, and it also goes to show that today's sota can also be a substantial leap of performance.

Thanks for posting, I would have missed that one...I really need to hear a Vivaldi soon!
