I'm not a fan of Acapella speakers but I have been impressed by their Ion tweeter. I imagine the plasma tweeter in the Cubus sounds fantastic.
I also like the idea of the 18" woofer. I had imagined that both of these would perform well beyond the Odeon 33 or 38.
Is the horn midrange of the Cubus, however, vastly better than the Odeon models as well?
The loading of the woofer is at least as important as it’s size...not saying the Cubus is mistuned or anything but size alone won’t tell you much. I actually preferred the bass on our Dynamikks 10.15 (15 inch) over the bass in the larger 12.18 (18 inch).

This is a little late to the party but this looks like a very good deal and something i would consider if I were in the market. These are the upgraded Signature Ref Alum 5's by Stenheim. Can probably be had for ~30K.

Stenheim Alumine 5 Signature reference floorstanding speakers. Swiss high end! $85,000 MSRP | Full-Range | Rockleigh, New Jersey 07647

If I owned Lamm ML2 or ML.2.2 amplifiers what's a satisfying full range speaker under $50k and under $100k. (please, no subwoofers). Speaker should be available new with excellent manufacturer support. TIA

If we leave off the 'new' criteria and the 'excellent manufacturer support' criteria, I suppose the Vitavox CN-191 corner horns make the list. :)

My room: 16'W x 20'L x 8'H ft / ~312 sq ft, 29 sq m

Lamm ML2.2: 18 Watts into 16, 8, and 4 Ohms > 0.85 Volts RMS ± 2%

What about the JBL M9500 or others in the K2 related projects?

I think there is clearly a lot of potential there for those who don't want horn bass.

These remind me a lot of the Usher D2/D3 offerings :D

Depending on the ML 2.2 owner's tastes, I would suggest in the 'semi-modern speaker' category the Wilson X1/Grand Slamms. Yes, they CAN use up whatever amount of power you want to throw at them...but with a 6ohm load and 95db efficiency...as well as the long-standing reputation of high quality sound from the Lamm-Wilson combination, I would think this is quite an interesting opportunity.

More like the other way around...Usher copied JBL
I know :D
Have you heard those JBL's ?
How would you compare them to the Usher D2 we have heard?

No those are pretty rare. Only heard the newer K2 and Everest models and found the experience a mixed bag (mostly because of Mark Levinson electronics I think). The Ushers I was not terribly impressed with...very bass shy for 2 x 15 inch woofers. Horn and driver sounded good though.

You mean the demo in Munich with JBL and ML?
If yes, that was quite horrible, indeed

The Usher D2 were imo quite OK, not super but way better than most

I heard them and the K2 9800 and 9900 a few times...with the right amps they might be amazing...

The Usher wasn't the worst just was surprised by lack of bass.

S9500/M9500 are the last of efficient K2/Everests and ML2 is really borderline with them, meaning you need to bi-amp with two pairs of ML2 in a larger room but they’re magnificent that way. My quest for vintage started back around 1999 because there weren’t any really efficient enough speakers back then either. Wilson X1 was one and a few Kharma models sounded great with them too but none of them do the ML2s justice like top vintage.

Thanks. What can you tell us about them?
The Chicago are a open baffle design with 2 x 15" ( I think ) and one maybe 8" field coil drivers and a mundorf tweeter.

About 95dB efficiency with adjustable voltage power supplies for field coils that satisfy the need for audiophile tweaking . A mate has a pair and they are a rare bird - an efficient cone OB that reach down low with passive crossovers.
Wolfe Von Langa has been developing OB designs for a while with some humongous efforts but the current range are quite room friendly sizes and have the great advantage of all OB's of integrating well with a room.
The drivers are beautifully engineered

He is running them with a aeries cerat pre and an obscure Italian OTL on tweeter and mid and hypex on bottom end.
They have a generous sound that I would think is along the path you appear to be going.
I don't think they are represented in Aus anymore but I see @gestalt has them in the States
