While waiting for Chris’ assessment of what is going on here, my guess is that it’s a reduction of processing by the ATV processor that is leading to the improvements in A/V quality. We are already at such a low level of noise and jitter that even small reductions make a noticeable difference. On a regular ATV, switching to a static IP would not be noticeable.
Now, if that’s the case, what else can be done. Chris, can you disable the WiFi circuit completely? I don’t think it ever shuts off, even when Ethernet is connected. If we disable it completely, I bet that will lead to another gain in quality.
