Not yet. I think I'm going to tackle it using 2-4 subs instead of treatments. It's just a matter of deciding what I want to build for the subs, and how I want to integrate them into my existing system.
This is a very nice Mahler 7. I wouldn't label it top-drawer, but it has some very good qualities. The Nachtmusik are excellent, especially the first; so much character. It almost come across as Bernstein light as a whole, but much more musical. Playing down the over emotions and theatricality...
I just bought 2 cases. One for my restaurant and the other for my liquor store. Perhaps I can save even more money by wiping down all of my refrigeration, too! Hmmm....I wonder if this would make my employees operate more efficiently....Maybe a daily wipe-down before a shift starts will be in order.
A few thoughts:
This disc has excellent sonics. Maybe the best recorded/engineered Mahler 3 on record. To me, that's saying something, because there are many well recorded Mahler thirds. All of the inner detail in this symphony is readily apparent. Micro dynamics are captured beautifully. As...
Sadly, that's a disc I can not part with. It was a souvenir from the Gewandhous Shop in Leipzig when I was there attending MahlerFest in '11. In a similar vein I would recommend Inbal with Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra, though it's not cheap either. Also David Zinman with Tonhalle Zurich is...
It's too bad we never got to hear Horenstein conduct a truly good orchestra. He had such a unique vision with Mahler.
Lucerne it is. Rheinhold Frederich does give a nice posthorn, doesn't he. I will give some thoughts on this and the MTT recording in the very near future. Thanks for reminding...
I have listened to this disc many times. It is a real treasure. Very different from Karajan, Bernstein or Solti. Sanderling looks at Mahler with a more modern view; you will not find emotional romanticism in this recording.
Which Abbado? Lucerne, Vienna or Berlin? Honestly, I've not listened to MTT in quite awhile. I will revisit it in the very near future.
For older recording I really love Horenstein. That's almost a given, though. Kondrashin has always had a place in my heart with the Mahler 3, too. I have a...
Bernstein recorded two Mahler cycles. The cycle, 'thedudeabides', is talking about his Bernstein's earlier Mahler cycle, recorded with Columbia. You have his later cycle, made with multiple orchestras. They are two very different approaches to this music. I can tell you nothing of the provenance...
I haven't listened to them in quite sometime, but here is my take. This goes for the Carnegie hall remaster, and the Japanese SACD remasters which they are derived from. They are the best way to hear this cycle, hands down. Detail and clarity is vastly improves in the 2nd, 5th, 6th, 8th, and...
One of the best Mahler 3's recorded in the last 10-15 years. It's up there with Alan Gilbert and Manfred Honecks recordings of the work. Highly recommend.
The past 6 months or so, I've been really delving into opera. Wagner has always been a huge part of my listening, but I never really went beyond him. Now that I've started, I can't stop. I almost feel ashamed for having missed out on so much amazing music.
I am listening to the BD-A version of this recording. It's a stunner. One of those times when recording quality and performance quality come together for something really special.
This is an excellent account of Mahler 6. It is passionate and highly involving; the scherzo is one of the best on record. It brings to mind Kubelik with the same forces and Eliahu Inbal with Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony.
