Hard to believe he gave his last concert a few weeks ago. He had to sit for his performance annd only sang a few songs.
Definitely one of the kings of heavy metal rock ‘n’ roll. Who can ever forget Black Sabbath

What is anybody's hypothesis as to why these old geezer rockers just can't get off the stage? Phil Collins performing in a chair. Ozzy? The Rolling Stones?

Are these guys as psychologically addicted to the adoration of screaming fans today as they were physically addicted to drugs decades ago?

Why not go out at the top as a jumping rockstar maniac, instead of having your fans remembering you as an elderly and feeble octogenarian sitting in a chair?

Ron, is there any profession where people retire at the top of their game?

Musicians love to perform and that’s all they really know what to do. I know people who have saw the stones in last tour and thought they performed very well.

It's not so hard to imagine that Ozzy might have wanted to go out doing what he loved. He was never one to play it safe. That raw, defiant spirit was central to who he was. And let’s be honest, true artists like Ozzy, the Stones, Waters and others don’t retire in the traditional sense. They live and breathe their craft to the very end. For them, dying in the harness isn’t a tragedy, it’s a final act of authenticity.

Money and nostalgic emotions drive this, especially when the market supports the effort. As long as fans show desire to fill venues, it’s hard to argue that the personality should let it go.

I have friends who talked about Osbourne’s last show as though it was an important event in their lives.

If he’d lived, I wouldn’t have been surprised if he’d scheduled more shows as his stamina and ticket sales allowed.

In an analogous love, Charlton Heston made his last public appearance at the national NRA convention in Orlando not long before his death. The large room was packed, and they wheeled him out in a wheelchair with a blanket. They put a muzzleloader in his hands and he managed to hold it over his head and say “From my cold, dead hands” one last time, before Toby Keith gave his performance. The room was electric. Heston was not there for money. He was there for his love of the enthusiasm for his cause.

Hello David!

Statistics about professions is not my field. So I really don't know.

What about that baseball guy, Bob Ruth?

How did Bobby Mercer do?

What about Lou Alcindor?

Duffy Dyer?

That football guy, Tom Hardy, did well, no?

That boxing guy of whom Billy Crystal used to do an amazing impersonation?

or maybe he wanted to say goodbye to his millions of fans knowing his time was short, cause it had nothing to do with money and ironically his last song was "momma im coming home"

I remember a scene from The Osbournes. Ozzy was supposed to record the song "Dreamer." They set up a bubble machine in the studio. The whole room was filled with them. When Ozzy came in, he said, "Bubbles, really, you fucking kidding me I'm the Prince of Darkness, and he will always be one." (R.I.P.)

Totally agree David. Posts like that IMO are to be ignored I saw the last Stones concert and loved it. Ozzy was a super star and a legend and yes I agree with Ked that Black Sabbath was the start of something big

Saw Phil Collins too. Always liked him

Here in SoCal my wife and I commonly go to The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano for the past 40 years to see all of the old acts. We love them .

Going to see Judy Collins end of August who also has to sit for her concerts and walks with a cane and has lost most of her voice from a stroke but another true legend . Saw Don McLean there 2 weeks ago who is 79 and still performing . He's lost most of his voice too but the crowd was standing for the entire concert. He was great

Saw Rod Stewart a few months ago at Caesar's Forum. He's 80. Couldn't sing like he used to but had swagger like Jagger and played to a full house and brought the house down with 3 encores.

Billy Joel collapses on stage.....has medical and mental issues but IMO also a true legend who always [played to a sold out Madison Square Gardens

Totally agree.. great post

I just asked AI who is the founder of heavy metal .

Answer ......Black Sabbath
The scholars argue about this. When Deep Purple performed "Child in Time" in 1970, the audience looked at each other and said, "What kind of nut is this? Today, one of the best songs ever."

P.S
Just like Gene Simmons of Kiss claimed to have invented the symbol, but it was actually Ronnie James Dio. His grandmother used it to calm goats when they were jumping around. The truth lies somewhere in between, as always.images (10).jpeg
