FWIW, I prefer the 112A over the 71A.

Ah I have just seen your earlier post about them.

Are yours Raytheon? I have never owned a Raytheon I have thought was great mind you I think I only have three sets of Raytheon, so it's not a huge data set.

They are RCA.

I am using metal base Phillips GZ34 rectifier now, and I'm impressed.

There's not many metal based rectifiers still available, price for those tubes is high, but for some audiophiles they are the best rectifiers in history. Well, they have a unique, metal base sound signature.

It’d be nice to read and compare your impressions with mine.

That is a great question ... I cannot answer.

I went with the 242 tubes from the start and haven't tried anything else.

But maybe I should borrow some tubes from ?ukasz ... that may be actually a good idea !

?ukasz lives just 20 min away from me. He even visited me just 2 days ago to have a listen.

Oh the 242 work great with dagostino? You get this very low noise floor and grip and see through ness note to note? Seriously, if this works, I might go with inefficient speakers with subs

I went with a quad of KR-242 tubes for my balanced Pacific DAC. I wanted to get a bit more gain from the DAC to drive my 211 True Balanced Monoblocks after they were upgraded to the Pacific circuit. That had ~3 dB less gain. Since I use a passive preamp/controller, I got the additional gain. However the sound of the KR-242 tubes was the best I've heard from my Pacific DAC... a perfect fit.

What kind of 211s are in your Pac amps?

A quad of KR Labs 211 were supplied with the amp. When one of the tubes eventually died, I purchased a set of Psvane 211 tubes (very cost effective). They sound fine in my amp. I'm using the 211 amps to drive the midrange/treble drivers of my Von Schweikert VR100XS towers. The bass inputs are handled by a pair of Spectron Musician III Mk2 running as monoblocks.

The crossover between the bass and mid/treble inputs is around 300 Hz. I don't use any additional external crossovers, running both amps full range with only attenuation ahead of the Spectrons for level matching. Frequencies below the crossover point in the mid/treble present a very high impedance to the tube amps which eases the load that the 211 tubes see.

The combo provides bass with extremely the control and limitless power for my needs. The 211 amps mate perfectly on the mid/treble with their glorious sound. I play mostly classical music, so head banger volumes aren't necessary. My system can still reach full Mahler fortissimo volumes as measured with a dB meter in Cleveland's Severance Hall.

Hi Jazzhead. Do you know the MSRP and availability of the KR-242 & RK-242 variants? Can you describe the sonic differences? Thanks
