@ayreman could you name the next best cable you've compared to the Audioquest in a direct A/B in your system? And, in what ways specifically did the Audioquest better that cable?

Thanks.

bazelio, to me there is no "next best". I haven't heard one yet. There is top AQ and everything else. No cable that I ever auditioned gives the depth, authority, articulation and accuracy of bass that AQ is capable of. Solid-core PSS and PSC+ that they use in their top designs seems to make all the difference. Multistrand conductors and inferior metal quality of everything else I ever auditioned can not come even close, let alone rival AQ. Same goes for highs: they are natural silk with AQ! By comparison, everything else sounds murky and muddy at the bottom and the top. Every time I audition a system, I come home dissapointed. And it's always the same thing: bass sucks and highs are "dirty" and all wrong. Interestingly, not all is bad in the mid range. I've auditioned quite a few systems with glorious mid range. But to me top quality bass is soooo important that I see no other alternatives to AQ.

Don't get me wrong. AQ also makes some mediocre products: e.g. their headphones, Jitterbug and budget cables made of cheap metals (e.g. LGC) are just average. Nothing special about them. But their top cables are head over shoulders above everyone else. I am so lucky to have ALL 100% cables in my system from AQ. I won't trade them for anything else!

Hello guys,

Before AQ introduced Firebird power cord that is described now as a mix of PSS and PSC+, the Dragon was described as a mix of PSS and PSC+.
Now the Dragon is described as PSS only.

Does it mean that:
Older Dragon became a Firebird now and we have a new Dragon all silver?

Can anybody check it and clarify here? Thanks.

Dragon has never been (and never will be) all silver. It is roughly 70% PSS and 30% PSC+. Firebird is the opposite: around 70% PSC+ and 30% PSS. And of course Hurricane is 100% PSC+. That's all there is to that.

Thanks for your reply. I wonder why AQ describes Dragon on their website and pricelist as PSS.

How about Dragon Source? The same metal composition as High Current only smaller AWG?

All this confusion over what should be extremely simple specifications from AQ. Simply list each wire, AWG, and metal for each cable, like they used to do - that's not too much to ask given the asking prices here. Otherwise, botched messaging like this potentially risks the momentum they've built in these lines - we're a small and very enthusiastic niche at this end of the market. AQ should release an official statement clearing this up - past & present upper-end storm cables - once and for all.

Don't know why they do this, but they do. And not only with respect to Dragon PC. But with many other cables. Annoys me personally. It seem that no one is perfect. But AQ top cables still sound best!

Did anybody compare the Hurricane and the Firebird?

Looking at the price of these Chinese-made Audioquest power cables, and based on my in-home auditioning, I would recommend pitting them against the new Zenwave PS14 power cable which was superb in my system. For the cost of shipping, you can try out this excellent new cable for yourself.

Sorry for my English.

I got Hurricane for about 2-3 years never like it traded for Niagara 5000 2days ago. It make my system sound too fast and too much midrange too edgy. I think it kinda over price cable.

When I trade it for Niagara 5000 dealer give me Dragon ,Audience and Jps super aluminata for a demo in my system. The Dragon was just Wow. So relax ,wide ,detail no edgy like Hurricane and just enough bass for my system. I think it worth the price.

But after fun swapping cables for a few days ,I always came back to Tellurium Q Statement. I think Dragon(source) for phono and statement for amplifier would be perfect for me.

Clearly, you listened to a fake Hurricane. Genuine Hurricane sounds nothing like you describe.

Heh. What makes you think a power cord has a sound that is totally independent of the gear that it is powering?
Some things are obvious and don't change between systems...

And some things do.
bazelio, what's your point? Are you trying to draw me into a useless debate with you? Don't try because you will lose. I've been using top AQ cables in my system for 2 decades and head them in dozens of systems. I know what genuine top AQ cable will introduce into any system. So let's leave it at that. End of discussion.

I suggest you reread Magicpea's ludicrous statements and use your own logic and intellect. Have you ever met an audiophile who complained about his system sounding "too fast"? Hurricane (at around $2000) is overpriced for him and Dragon (at around $10000!) is "worth the price". I mean... have you ever read (or heard) anything more preposterous? Jesus! What is this guy smoking?!

You're out of line, and come across in this thread as an Audioquest shill. The one word you've used that rings true is "useless". Well OK, "end of discussion".

I can’t imagine anyone thinking the AudioQuest Hurricane Power Cords sound edgy. My experience has been the exact opposite.

Plus, Garth himself said that the difference between the Hurricane and Dragon wasn't huge.

I agree completely both with Alpinist and dminches! So, bazelio, are they also "Audioquest shills" or, perhaps, they simply own decent systems, have good ears and prefer to tell the truth?
P.S. My personal opinion: Dragon is only about 50% better than Hurricane.
