Those who have experience actually know. dj and amir are just guessing and frantically searching the net trying to back up their purely theoretical position like some sort of religious fanatic.

The difference between a Solen MKP and a Jupiter copper foil cap used either in electronics or speakers is massive, night-and-day, unmistakable...

I didn't guess at anything. I just don't accept someone putting words out there as to what they think they hear with nary of any evidence that a) they have such listening abilities and b) those differences are clearly audible when the identity of such caps is taken away.

If the differences are night and day, let's put a blind test together and verify.

I wanted to post some measurements so folks can get a more realistic perspective on what these speakers do. The following is not my normal setup. I listen with active crossovers to subs. So my normal bass is flat to 20hz with a wide sweet spot since I use four subs. I've been PM'd by several folks interested in these speakers. Some asked me about how extended the low end is. You can see from the FR plot that the low end probably -10db at 30hz. That's not bad for a two way speaker for sure. But I would recommend at least two subs to get the full package.

You can also see that these speakers do well with Acourate DSP. The smoothed 1/12 per octave plot shows that the speaker tracks my target curve very well. You can also see that DSP correction can make the time domain very tight so that the two drivers produce a very vertical step. The logsweep was only to 20khz. Note how scary flat the JBLs are from 6khz-20khz!(the downward HF slope is due to the target curve.)

What is your subwoofer arrangement like now with four of them? I probably missed some posts about them, last I recall you were using 2 subs, one in the middle of the front wall and one in the middle of the back wall?

Welti 4 sub midwall

It's a four sub setup. Each sub is midwall to all four walls in my rectangularish listening room. The plot I posted reflects only my R/L speaker position which is optimized for my setup. (I could get more LF extension out of the JBLs in a different position; doesn't matter for me) I high pass R/L and low pass all subs. Time domain is corrected for all speakers individually and then a final correction is applied with all speakers playing together in the end. I use Acourate filters and playback with Acourate Convolver from Roon.

Any questions about capacitors? :D

The paper deals with mic preamp listening tests and a variety of caps. The listeners weren't able to discriminate with the exception of one cap comparison. I'm not sure how relevant these types of caps are to loudspeaker crossovers. The following is the only part of the test where listeners could reliably distinguish.

As for JBL's DC biased caps, the study's listeners couldn't distinguish biased caps from unbiased caps, with the exception of one extremely high distortion cap.

Are you saying that the caps were being used coupling the signals from microphones at very low level?

TAD uses something that's audiophile grade, so does Magico, Rockport has custom capacitors (obviously audiophile grade), and many others. All of which that I've heard sound more refined especially Magico whom also uses flat wire inductors.

Even the referred Vivid uses several different types of film capacitors in their crossovers, according to the range frequency they are dealing with. If they found all sounded the same, they would probably use the cheapest non polar with the same capacitance ...

IMHO we should separate the debate on exotic ultra expensive capacitors from using quality capacitors in appropriate positions in the crossovers - that is common practice in high-end.

No one is taking ultra exotic high end... it's just cheap vs good right now.

I agree. Stop making so much sense! I hate it when I have to agree with you :D

all this cap blah blah blah is what is boring. your thread is actually really cool.

Unlike many others here, I'll start a new thread when I want to post something on a totally new topic. I've actually started a new thread on ASR forum about my four sub setup a while ago. I even have an OBS video demoing the setup using Acourate pro. It's a long video tho.

Thanks I'll check it out.

I appreciated your posts on your expeirience with the JBL speakers. I'll be happy to read more as you have more experience with them.

Well I hope there will be other 4367 owners who comment here. I've been contacted by three other folks who are happy owners. I hope at least one other posts about his experiences here too. But I'd understand if he chose to not post here.
