Technical Audio Devices Laboratories, Inc. (TADL) today announced the TAD-E2-WN floor-standing speaker system with the “TAD Evolution Two” moniker as the newest addition to its Evolution Series of hi-fi audio components.
Featuring newly developed twin 15.5 cm woofers and a 2.5 cm beryllium tweeter and drawing on a wealth of speaker-engineering ingenuity we have accumulated over the years, the TAD-E2 embodies the long tradition of delivering single-point-source sound for which all TAD speakers are known and takes the sound field and imaging performance to a new level. The speaker enclosure has a classy woodgrain finish that blends into any room decor.
MAIN FEATURES
1) Tweeter Featuring a 2.5 cm Beryllium Diaphragm Produces a Clear and Natural SoundAs is the case with the TAD-E1TX and TAD-ME1 speaker systems in the Evolutions Series, the TAD-E2 features a tweeter with a 2.5 cm beryllium diaphragm. The shape of the diaphragm is determined by an advanced optimization method based on the HSDOM (Harmonized Synthetic Diaphragm Optimum Method) computer analysis to provide a frequency response up to 60 kHz. The directionality of the tweeter is optimally controlled by a newly developed waveguide on which it is mounted to produce a smooth dispersion of sound over an extended frequency range. The waveguide is made of rigid cast aluminum to suppress unwanted resonance. The result is a polished sound in the mid-to-high frequency range for which all TAD speakers are known.
2) Newly Developed Twin 15.5 cm Woofers Deliver a Powerful Bass with Smooth Directionality
Each woofer employs a 15.5 cm MACC (Multi-layered Aramid Composite Cone) diaphragm. This diaphragm is composed of an Aramid fabric cone on the front and a softwood pulp cone on the back that are formed separately before they are laminated together. This configuration produces a rich and clear bass as well as a coloration-free mid-to-low range sound with excellent linearity. In addition, the woofer cone has a shallowly curved structure to provide smooth directionality and has a reinforcement brace added to its neck that forms a delta bracing structure to reproduce a powerful bass.
3) Crossover Network Filter Enables an Excellent Sound Field and Image Localization
A 2.5-way network filter is employed to achieve an optimum phase rotation between the upper and bottom woofers at the crossover frequency between the tweeter and the woofers. This filter reduces phase interference around the crossover frequency between the twin woofers and the tweeter. The combination of speaker units with outstanding sound directionality and this network filter achieves a natural attenuation characteristic and directional pattern over the entire frequency range, which contributes to a well-focused sound image localization and a precise sound field reproduction.
4) Bidirectional ADP System Produces a Rich and Natural Bass
The Bidirectional ADP (Aero-Dynamic Port) System positions a port on the bottom of the enclosure with its openings to the front and rear of the enclosure. The port has a horn-shaped interior that reduces port noise and achieves greater efficiency in driving the port to help reproduce clear and responsive sound in the mid-to-low frequency range. The symmetrical front-back layout of the port effectively offsets the physical force that vibrates the enclosure and, as a result, helps reproduce a powerful bass.
5) 10-mm-thick Steel Base Plate Adds Greater Stability
A 10-mm-thick base plate made of solid steel is attached to the bottom of the enclosure with resin horn plates inserted between them to suppress the base plate’s vibration. The three spikes attached to the base—two toward the front and one toward the rear—enable the firm placement of the speaker system on any floor surface. The structural design that enables the three spikes to optimally support the position of the system’s center of gravity counterbalances the reaction caused by the powerful driving force of the twin woofers.
6) SILENT Enclosure Dampens Unwanted Resonance
The SILENT (Structurally Inert Laminated Enclosure Technology) enclosure incorporates the combination of MDF (medium-density fiberboard) panels with a high internal loss and rigid birch plywood braces to achieve greater strength and lower resonance. The rounded edge at the top of the baffle reduces the diffraction of the sound waves from the tweeter. In addition, the slanted baffle optimizes the position of the speaker system’s center of gravity and compensates the difference in distance between each speaker unit and the listener to enable a more precise sound field reproduction from this floor-standing speaker system with twin woofers.
7) Woodgrain Satin Finish Gives an Elegant and Classy Look
The enclosure has an open-pore satin finish that retains straight grain. Skilled artisans spend hours in crafting the enclosure with meticulous care—from conditioning the base materials and spraying paint to grinding the base paint and applying matt top-coating—to give it a classy clear matt finish.
