Let's Talk Oscar Predictions

I loved Seth taking about "boobs" and seeing the actresses faces. Priceless.

Ang Lee thanking Taiwan. Another reason why China says Taiwan is part of China. :D

I could never take Holywood, the Academy and the awards seriously, though there are some true artists; but I loved the jibes at the academy for not nominating Affleck.

There were no surprises IMHO other than Tarantino for Best Original Screenplay. I was betting ZDT

It was also interesting to see how the show is "manipulated", or edited if you will... case in point, the boobs thing with the camera supposedly panning to the displeased and embarrassed Theron and Watts - clearly, they were not wearing those clothes at the ceremony (e.g. Theron was seen wearing all white at the red carpet and on stage).

Thought Macfarlane wasn't terribly great. He just wasn't that funny and had 2-year old jokes like Rihanna/Chris Brown. Even Ted was a disaster on stage (and I love that movie). Sock puppets were the best thing he did. I thought he wasn't hard-hitting enough if that makes sense and he kept on questioning his own jokes to the crowd which was annoying.

I thought the musical stuff on stage was excellent--and I'm not a musical fan much. and Shirley Bassey at 76 can still hit some notes (and was better than Babs).

Ang Lee won for a difficult movie to direct, but let's be honest---no one will ever care about Life of Pi historically. Ben Affleck wasn't nominated for Best Director for good reason imo---he had one great scene (the market), but his portrayal of the ending was as cheese as it gets (the phone ringing, the guys prevented from crossing the set---like really?, the Iranian clowns in pursuit, the locked doors, list goes on and on. Compare that directly to Bigelows final 20 minutes of ZD30 which showed how real suspense is created....or Spielberg's voting scene in Lincoln. Affleck isn't in their league- his directing also didn't leave you a real compelling character outside of himself.

I like Argo, but it's not a film I'd even buy. Let's face it- it could be the worst film of the 11 before it:

Gladiator
Beautiful Mind
Chicago (I've never seen it still)
LOTR
Million $ Baby
Crash
The Departed
No Country for Old Men
Slumdog Millionaire
The Hurt Locker
The King's Speech
The Artist (ok, it's better than this probably)

I disagree Keith

I loved Life Of Pi and predicted Ang Lee would win. As for Affleck I believe him to be a very gifted director, certainly he's no actor. The who's who in Hollywood now consists of people of the ilk of Affleck,Clooney, Wahlberg etc. This film was produced by Clooney so you can be sure that he had the support and backing of most of the Academy.

I'm going to buy Argo. I agree about ZDT. A great film but just too controversial for most Academy members. BTW, I recall your prediction of TLJ for Best Supporting Actor. I personally thought he was never going to win as no other actor even came close (well Robert De Niro did) to the role portrayed by Christoph Waltz.

well I wanted Waltz to win, just figured a bunch of older Academy people would vote for TLJ :)

there is a school of thought out there that TLJ and RDN had much more difficult roles, but I ultimately enjoyed Waltz best. sometimes the awards focuses on the situation more than the actor.

I loved Seth taking about "boobs" and seeing the actresses faces. Priceless.

---- There were several actors/actresses, and Academy people who weren't too 'impressed' by his comment. ...Not at all!

* Give us Billy Crystal (or Jack) any day of the week instead of that fake buffoon (Seth).

I liked Seth. A well polished act and an extremely bright and creative mind. I saw nothing wrong with his show.

Pray tell us Bob why he is a fake buffoon. Or is this another of your famous comments

Steve, if I'm not free to give my own personal opinion on a showman at the Oscars, I don't know what else ...

There is no specific explanation regarding who you like or not; it is a personal taste and everyone is entitled to his own opinion regardless.
- His jokes are simply not funny. ...Not once did I laugh.

It's similar with movies, music, paintings, wine, women, and people.

I just don't like him.

P.S. No famous comments from me; I just tell it like it is, in full honesty.
You might disagree with my view, and that's fine. I have no problem with that.

You must be a member of the Old Fart club ? ;)

Seth is cutting edge.

For you Christian, not for me though.

BTW, I knew right away, Sunday after the show, that he'll never be back at the Academy for the Oscars as a host.
* He has no class at all.

Seth had me laughing until my sides hurt. Either you get him or you don't. I love humor that offends people. Why? Because it is humor, not drama.

For some, without all their bolts properly tightened, but certainly not for the smart crowd.

That was really mean, Bob, you would make a great comedian!
