Equi=Tech Wall Cabinet System; whole system power solution.

So now comes my dumb question as I am not versed in electrical matters but what does QW connote

Thanks Mike

i just noticed that i made an error in my explanation of the price list.

when looking at the price list here, scroll down to 'Contractor Products' 'Wall Cabinet Systems' and then go to 10WQ.

i had mistakenly wrote to look under 'Model Q'. that is just a transformer without a cabinet.

It took three weeks for your hearing to accept the system new sound. That much I will grant you... I don't believe much in dedicated lines as the best solution, that I have made it abundantly clear in this forum and other we both frequented...

I find your experience rather unique: Most audiophiles who have gone to dedicated line report immediate improvement ..

My first reaction to my system with better AC.. when I moved (by necessity) to a Double conversion Telecoms grade UPS (which by the way survived the whole thing ) which provides much better AC than Anything from the commercial grid ... with a THD of less than 3% under 150% load and absolute voltage stability +or - .5 % deviation from 120 V at full load and capable of delivering 15 KW continuously not KVA .. Kilowatts .. completely isolated from the EMI, RFI the commercial grid from any country has to be subjected to ... The first thing I knew immediately was that my system was much different. Bright? No. Unlistenable ? Absolutely not ...
I am sure it takes a while to accept certain things, including better system, so used and even addicted we often are with some of our systems faults.

Of course a dedicated line is only a partial solution but it's the best I can do given my living circumstances.

And yes, my hearing adapting to the new wire is part responsible for my observation --but clearly not the whole stsory. If it was only adaptation, was does the time for something "settling" in vary widely between cables, equipment, etc.?

And adpatation is what I've been arguing for months here and that seems to have fallen on deaf ears.

he is a price list. scroll down to Model Q. mine is the 10WQ. then i added OFC copper and three filtered circuts for my digital player and digital amps on my bass drivers of my speakers.

Thanks for the pointer; I found it about 10 mins after posting...

if you figure how much power conditioners can cost; and the fact that likely every component just got upgraded....it is cheaper than many upgrades that are less effective. and it improves every piece of gear you will ever buy.

Are you saying that with one of those big boys power conditioners from the likes of Nordost, Audience, or Running Springs are no longer necessary? If so, then yeah, the cost is a bit easier to swallow. I really like the idea, though, and from comments I've read here I should add it to my "one day" wish list.

i trust you saw my correction post above...

at this point i could only guess about whether the Equitech will cause any power conditioners to be un-needed. or whether it will reduce the significance of power cords, or special duplex outlets. i suspect that any of those products which have mechanical contributions (better wire or connection advantages) will continue to be helpful. but actual power conditioning will likely not be needed. i have no power conditioning currently except some of my power cords are the Fundamental ones from Jena Labs with the in-line conditioners.

I did, thanks. I'm looking even more forward to arranging a visit with you!

i just got back from a meeting with my contractor and electrician. we set an install date for next Wednesday and Thursday (if necessary).

i should have Steve Dobbins tt 'The Beat' before the end of September. when that arrives (or we know more exactly when it will arrive) we can set a date for your visit.

For someone looking for an Equitech:

For Sale: An Equi=Tech Transformer for only $4,000!
A Unique Opportunity For The Right Fit At A Steal Of A Price

Acoustic Sounds is preparing to move from our current 18,000-square-foot location to three buildings that total 70,000 square feet. Originally, we planned to move to two buildings totaling 50,000 square feet until we realized that wouldn't be enough space to accommodate our growth. We'd purchased this Equi=Tech Transformer for our new soundrooms, which were initially going to be in one of two buildings that each had 480 power. However, our third building, where the sound rooms are now going to be, does not have 480. So, we can't use the Equi=Tech. This is a transformer that sells typically for approximately $15,000. However, we were able to purchase it for only $4,000 because somebody had ordered it by mistake. Now, we're willing to pass along this great deal to whoever out there may be able to put it to use. Remember, it can only be used in a 480 application. If you're interested in the cleanest power available and you have the right fit, this would be a great opportunity at a screaming deal.

This is an Equi=Tech Model 30NZ6-150VLB Neptune Series isolation transformer. It has a 480-Volt 3-phase input and outputs 120-Volts, perfectly balanced into three separate 100-Amp single-phase breaker panels.

the contractor and electrician (and 2 helpers) started the Equitech install this morning at 7am. i went home at noon to take a look at the progress and i'm feeling very good about how it's going.

the panel is 8 inches deep and i was concerned it might only be able to be recessed a couple of inches and would stick out 6 inches or more. they were able to recess it about 6 inches so it only extends from the wall less than 2 inches.

i was also concerned they would not be able to get it high enough on the wall to allow the cabinet to go back in the same place. no problem the bottom is the same height as the original panel.

so my logistical issues are solved. it should be done before i get home from work tonight.

i can't wait.

hi mike , as i posted on another blog, please let me know your first impressions...... & of course after the burn in. i know you will love the equi=tech.

last night i unplugged/disconnected the whole system so the electricians could properly test the circuits during the installation today. so it's stone cold. i just listened for 20 minutes.

"Toto; we're not in Kansas any more."

after 2 hours i'm a bit overwhelmed. this is a completely different system. first i played about an hour of my most familiar digital. and for the last 45 minutes very familar vinyl. there is not an aspect of the performance that is not significantly improved.

what is different;

--much less distortion. every piece of music i've played redefined how it should sound. bass previously percieved to be correct is revealed to have been flabby and ill defined. vocals previously considered clear and natural are revealed as smeared and congested. pianos, violins, guitars are now in full focus. these differences are not subtle.

--much lower noise floor. from the first note the music was portrayed against a much blacker background. but more than that you could see around to the back of the instrument or vocalist and into the background. there is a definition to the object projecting the sound.

--dramatic increase in dynamic range, dynamic contrasts, and delicate gradiation of dynamics. when playing softer passages at familiar levels much more punch and dynamic swings. the music is bursting with life.

--the speakers completely disappear. my room has always done great soundstaging and my speakers have always disappeared. but the degree of the music being released from the speakers has quadrupled. i'm not sure how to communicate this aspect of the improvement.

--tonally it is more multicolored, more nuanced, more harmonically interesting. the emotional content and pull of the music is much better. the music is more together, more vigerous, more involving.

i've written and deleted a few times now how the music is affecting me. i cannot quite get a grip on how to express it. i'll try again later; but for now i need to return my full focus to the music.

Congratulations!! .. Now you can understand (or maybe you already did) why I have been preaching about the purest AC power possible to one' system ... Once you get the AC, with minimum EMI and RFI and great power reserve... that is what you get .. The more you listen the more you will re-discover your system.
That is the kind of investment audiophiles should look into , much more worthwhile than any of those "audiophiles" power conditioner or power cords ...

Before I am branded an audio-fool.. :) The effects of a power system like the Equi=tech are repeatable.. Plug your system in anything not to that level and you will consistently hear it .. At least in my experience .. I haven't cared to measure but I have no doubt that several parameters of components' performance would improve.

Great to hear the Equitech is working out even better than you had hoped Mike. I thought the power out there in the country would be very clean, but it's damn hard to beat 250 lbs of pure copper. If you have any video displays connected to the lines, let us know how they look.
