Lukasz Has Done It Again

I hope the government shut-down doesn't delay the arrival.

Hopefully not. As I saw the waybill DHL is serving as the clearing agent and once cleared it goes on a DHL truck to my house

However you never say never "until the fat lady sings"

Since I´m being alluded to I want to clarify what (in bold) I found a bit discorteous, key words being "a bit" not very, not extremely, not offensive but a only bit, sorry for causing trouble in Tube Rolling Paradise, now I´m off to the MSB Sentinel Dac thread to see if I can find someone who wants to change its power supply, modify its clock or add an external one and point my perplexed finger at them :)

On a different note, I´m not a fan of stratospherically priced DACs or amps, but for some reason I´m excited about the Aphrodite, something that has not happened to me before with any audio product. It probably has to do with the fact that Lukasz´s talents weren´t constrained by anything during the design process so I´m expecting something extremely special as a result, I honestly can´t wait to read the first reports.
I apologize for those parts. The use of “propaganda” was hyperbolic and over the top. The “hmm” was my confusion. But I am sorry for being troublesome in any way. I am even more sorry if Lukasz was peeved by it in any way. As I mentioned, he has brought way too much joy to my life. I have deep respect for him. Meeting him was a highlight of my hifi journey.

Your MSB jabs are both touche and also a verification of my confusion, my “hmm,” because you are suggesting that changing the tubes is like messing with the dac innards of an MSB, but the manual of the Apphrodite has a section on tube rolling. The product was designed for it. This is a feature, not something we do to mess with Lukasz’s dacs. The protective settings he mentions installing above are amazing and show that he intends to serve the changing of tubes, which I appreciate. If you want to use stock tubes, you can. If you like to roll, you also can. This is the Lampi way. I am not confused any more as I realize that nothing has changed.

Let’s let it go. I too am very excited to read more, explore this new dac and hopefully place an order soon.

This Aphrodite design is bonkers.

I think a really interesting setup would be Aphrodite -> Pilium-> Alsyvox versus say MSB -> Audio Research 330M -> Alsyvox.

Where a top Alsyvox config was in play.

That way, KT170 would get the chance to show themselves off in a config they were designed for versus in the Aphrodite setup.

Let's face it there really isn't anything out there that is a good KT170 sub - maybe Psvane KT 150 could be worth a try.

I wouldn't like to predict which setup would sound best. I'd just like to try it and go "hmmm".

I sincerely hope that Aphrodite will be compared to every dac there is. And everybody will go Hmmmm…

Looks like the Goddess of Love is shining brightly down on me

as my Aphrodite arrives tomorrow Id like to once again remind readers of the event at my house Oct 31-Nov2

There have been plenty of responders coming from all over the country and internationally . There is always room for more so please continue to reach out to me here by PM to get your name on the list as well as at the gate. I'm looking forward to refreshing friendships and meeting new members and being able to put faces behind the names

I'd like to also say that as the date draws closer I have had several members who are attending if there is a possibility to do an A/B with my Horizon 360

Initially I thought this would not be possible as I only have the one shelf where the H360 currently resides and will soon be replaced by the Aphrodite. I said to those requesting that I thought it unlikely as we would have to take one DAC off my platform, and hook up the other and then wait for not only burn in but the capacitors to charge before we could truly have a fair A/B test

Also the H360 has been sold and will be picked up on Sunday morning by the purchasing member so I felt that Fred and Lukasz would do this upon their arrival and concentrate only on demoing the Aphrodite

Well thinking somewhat deeper it suddenly dawned on me that I do have an extra CMS platform where presently my NAS and Schnerzinger Allocator reside. These can easily be moved.

So here are my thoughts. Tomorrow the Aphrodite arrives and will be placed on the platform where the H360 currently resides. But instead of packing up the H360 it will be temporarily relocated to sit on the CMS platform I now have on my floor.

I have checked and as luck would have it, my XDMI cable going from IO to H360 (1.2 meters) is long enough to make the connection from IO to the H360 on the floor. IOW it wil be able to connect to both DACs.

Further Fred and Lukasz will be bringing a pair of RCA SE IC'c from my preamp to the H360 and I have 2 SE outputs from my preamp making for a quick A/B switch. They will also be bringing a better SOTA PC for the H360 as the one I have now will power Aphrodite

And finally for the icing on the cake as not all attendees have XDMI connection Fred and Lukasz will also be bringing a long enough USB cable to also A/B the two DACs with both XDMI as well as USB. I no longer have a USB cable

I know that Lukasz has spoken highly of USB with Aphrodite

Also by keeping the H360 powered on with the rear switch even though it is out of commission, no warm up will be necessary so it should be a fun A/B test between both DACs using either XDMI or USB

From a logistics point of view the only day we plan to do this will be Saturday as our plan is to have everyone present be able to audition Aphrodite between 1030-200 after which we will begin the A/B test

I have always said that the H360 is just about as good as any DACI personally have ever heard so I too will be very interested in the comparison

Pease contact me if this has stimulated you readers to attend.

Sunday remains a short day as the H360 will be packed up and listening to Aphrodite winding up by noon so I can get Lukasz and Fed to the airport for their afternoon flights home

HTH

The two protection levels - the WARNING and the SHUTDOWN are set by the user, who first installs whatever tubes, then checks the actual currents draw - say for example 200 mA, so he himself for his own protection - sets the warnings at 220 mA and shutdown at 250 so if anything ever for whatever reason goes south - you are protected from smoking the transformers and PSU. And the current sensors are NOT in the circuit at all - they are inductive sensors. Nothing to spoil the beauty of sound. So you see - it is NICE of me, not awful of me to do so.
so the protection is set by the user? isnt for eg an el34 a current draw of 1.5amp? what levels can the user set the currents to ? is this also for the rectifier tubes as well ?

The current warnings are set by the user and temperature warnings are set by the factory. We monitor transformer currents as a whole not the filiament currents. We want to protect the whole circuit and power transformers

Stay tuned for updates as right now I can’t leave my listening room. I think I soiled my undies

well let me start here..My hat is tipped to Lukasz as it is beyond my imagination how he was able to ship the new DAC from Poland to Southern California where it was picked up at Lampi headquarters on Monday (2 days ago) and is sitting now on my rack arriving safely in my home after stops at Leipzig and Heathrow before reaching Los Angeles only to clear customs without a hiccup and reach me at 230 this afternoon

The goddess of Love , Aphrodite is concealed as a Sherman Tank as this is a beast but so well packed that there wasn't a bump or blemish. The sturdy Lampizator shipping crate was surrounded in plywood along the sides and each corner was protected by cardboard angles

Total shipping wight was 160 pounds

This is one big solid and well built DAC which I think weighs somewhere around 120 pounds. I hired my two Armenian muscle men to get it from my front door up two flight s of stairs to the top platform of my CMS rack in my listening room on the second floor where it now resides front row center taking the place of the Horizon 360 which is sitting now on a CMS platform on the floor where we will be doing an A/B test on the
two DACs at my open house on October 31-Nov2

First off getting it out of the box proved easier than expected, in spite of the great weight as the front and rear ends of the DACwer entwined with a 3 " flat red strapping wrapped as a handle so my two muscle men lifted the DAC out and had it up the stairs and seated on 4 Center Stage Ultra TT. footers in under 10 minutes. It wasn't cheap to hire these guys but watching them maneuver, it was money well worth spent
