Hi,

I'm currently using my Acutus Dark Iron record player on my tube amp and horns speakers.
Really happy with the player but on this setup it almost sounds to accurate (compared on my previous setup where it was perfect).
Now I'm more focused on the musicality and not hi-fi accuracy, play mostly rock and live music.

Been thinking about replace Acutus to a Gerrard 401 (Overhauled, upgraded and customized plinth and with new PSU).

What do you guys think?
I know its 2 very different players.

I'd have thought the Acutus should provide a great platform for most any system. What tonearm and cartridge? Don't know much about Avid's own tonearm but they used to favour SME V which in my experience tended toward the sound you describe. May be worth exploring tonearm and cartridge in any case

Forgot to mention my plan is also to use two arms on my player, and it is quite expensive and one gets locked for 2 specific arms on the Avid, but with 401 it is more flexible (easier) with different armboards.

Now I'm playing with a SME 309 arm with a Lyra Kleos, but my plan is to use a Origin Live Enterprise 12" with Lyra Atlas as well.
And playing on Tobian 12FH speakers, EAR 912 and Mastersound.

For the record: the Avid is a fantastic player but I'm just curios if it will be a massive downgrade to swap to a Garrard.
