Magico Ultimate 3

No matter how good they sound, I still don't get why on Earth he used horns! So people fall in love with this speaker, realize they don't have $600K lying around and then decide to buy another horn speaker, which they are now all of a sudden, in love with and which, surprise, surprise Magico don't make!

Great marketing! :)

He never commented on sound quality. I made the inference he was "less than impressed" with the project...... Here is what he said. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

"I suppose now the gauntlet has been thrown and someone must top this price tag. We sure have an interesting field of endeavor, rich with spectacle and show.

Maybe someone could make a few bucks selling tickets to the sideshow ….. oh, wait a minute, it’s all included in the price of admission. And here I thought this was about music. Silly me."

His comments seem to be in stark contrast to quite a few listeners who reported the Ultimate being one of the best systems they have ever heard. No mention of a guantlet, selling tickets, a spectacle, or a sideshow. And a few comments about the music. Based on some of the comments on just this thread, rather than the Ultimate demo being a sideshow, it seems to be one of the main shows at the event. We might find in the next few weeks that this Magico room may be the most discussed demo at Munich.

As far as buying tickets to experience something this extraordinary, if the circumstances were right, meaning no talking, ability to hear one's own music, a seat near the sweet spot, etc., I could imagine people paying something for that. After all, people flew from around the world and paid to do just that with all kinds of systems under less than ideal circumstances.

He is not well informed. There are already more expensive speakers on the market.

No other horn speaker, maybe with the exeption of the Vox Olympian (which BTW was another $600k speaker at the show, driven by MUCH more expensive amplification) sounded any near close to the U3s. Every other horn speaker at the show I've heard, had driven me OUT of the room in seconds.

As I have not listened to the Ultimate 3 yet - but will do in a few month's - my humble opinion is based exclusively on what I have read. And although I have seen a lot of enthusiasm, I have not read anything solid about these speakers. Just undocumented superlatives in brief reports. But as I have read solid words about the previous Ultimate's from many sources and I believe that usually talented designers perfect their products when they incorporate new technologies and developments I am eagerly waiting for some more documented thoughts or a full review.

I agree. Some of you in this room heard the Ultimate's and the Vox Olympian at the show. Could you give more then a one sentance review of how both systems are. There highs, the bottom end because both use different woofer methods, Did the tubes change things, Was one easier on the ears. Things like that. IT seems the magazine writers must be traveling because almost nothing.

Here is where I look for updates on equipment reports and other things. Every day it automatically looks at 28 audio publications and shows which was updated or added a story in the last 24 hours. I used to go to tons of sites but this is easy. Any addition is marked with an orange NEW. http://www.dailyaudiophile.com

Where has this been all my life!! Thank-you!!!

It's Chris Sommovego's site I believe.

Re: Magico in Munich, AVShowrooms has an exclusive interview and speaker walk through with Alon plus a separate listening session with several selections. Also, we have a 4 person private session with Gryphon's Flemming Rasmussen, he talks about the system and plays demo tracks for us. Another exclusive is FM Acoustic's Manuel Huber, he has not attended a show in five years! We have over twenty minutes of video of this legendary designer. Not to mention the Silbatone room with the giant Western Electric speakers and a system walk though and listening session with the speaker's owner.

AMAZING videos coming soon.

Love it...those all sound like great videos...it seems like you've recorded videos of their systems playing...so looking forward to all of them!!!

He sure did. I was in the room when he recorded the Raidho D-5 demo ... I'm curious how it turned out. I will probably need to fire up a browser on my audio PC and play it back on my hi-man system instead of desktop :)

Earl, we have the vids and they will tell all!

Hey Micro,
you notice that Ricardo Franassovici is in the picture from post 453, talking to Alon.
Wonder how many Absolute Sounds will be selling (or involved) in Europe.
Cheers
