Zero Distortion: Tango Time

When I look at this picture, it gives me a sense of the way I want to have a system in my home. This is a restaurant not a home but there a sense of casualness, stressless, worry-free, none hifi, just enjoy music in it. Forget the high fidelity and just play music kind of feeling. I see everyone has his system at home but me. Ddk just told me there is a good pair of original Vitavox 191 wanting to change home right here in Bangkok. It could be the only pair here. Since then I have been thinking a lot if the destiny really is going to strike. I really hope it does. So that I have a second system - a "home" system... like Gian has the Quad corner speakers. I am thinking of putting these corner speakers in my living room behind my super comfy sofa and full of my son's toy laying around. He probably put a few on the speakers too if they were there. The room is quite jam with things but not to the extent of this restaurant. I am thinking even put the EMT 927 on the sofa table in the middle of the room. General's records allover under the table. Ease of use. Careless about perfect sound like we talk about in this forum. Just play some music and enjoy. Also want to get my kids used to tt, tube gears, classical and jazz. Integrated as part of everyday living. The dinner table and kitchen island are 5 steps away too. Better listening music during meal than watching Corona shit on tv constantly. Expect a super plain simple system...just need to find a small low watt set to stick to the EMT Phono that has the preamp function already. Cable I already have plenty Radio Shack and Ching Cheng ddk gave me. No room treatment. That's it. There my dream home system.

if i had grandkids i would be right with you. where ever they are i would be. the music needs to compliment, not direct, our life.

but i get the vibe you are after. i know my pictures are a bit sterile looking. but my daily listening culture is a bit less 'organized' than my 'visitor' or 'picture' viewpoint. alas, my room will never have that 'warm enveloping' thrown together vibe. not as sexy. but i like the way it is. it's my OCD reaction to the chaos of work. serenity and control.

Dear Tang,

You're right about the EMT on the floor, great choice with it's heavy frame but don't short change yourself and the speakers with some crappy old integrated these can be equal to your main system, here's the right partner;)!

Funny. I am starting towards an easy listening system myself. My main stereo is too dynamic, too much, to listen to all the time. But 927 is too big. You need a simple belt drive with SME arm - forget uber plinth stuff, you want a nice piece of furniture for it to sit on and have some record storage to cycle in and out gems. Then you need all-in-one tube receiver, but one that's just updated for safety, not audiophiled out (and some of them are very good, just not Marantz or other certain vintagephile obsessions). Personally I have an old Thorens TT I might deck out for just the purpose, it's not special and that's perfect. I have eyeballs on a couple tube receivers, and an idea for speakers. The music should just flow easy going whenever, not trumpet so loud and proud that it halts everything else. The goal is good taste, relaxed, could be played for small dinner party or fall asleep to laying on couch. (get auto arm raiser for it)

I strongly disagree with DDK about this... The speakers you are i-balling might be main system worthy but I cannot condone replicating a main system twice for my own personal taste - and I am advocating for exactly what I want.

There's a lot of speakers that look better... Pi's look nice, and you can get any wood finish you want.

I like wood finish options. Tannoys are easy to live with, the tannoy owners I envy because if you go to their place the music is easy to play, on LPs or on digital. Critical audiophile reviews could draw out defects, but music just flows, and it is the best integrated in a family living room to listen to music that I know of. Maybe these vitavox are good, I do not know.

I do not respect myself for striving to have a good multi way horn over a tannoy, even if I can get the latter to sound better

It's not replication, crappy electronics equal crappy or at best mediocre sound that soon becomes unpalatable. The idea that vintage sound is dark rolled off therefore easy to listen to is a fallacy as is the so called vinyl sound. A dark colored sound is just that, boring.

I was agreeing that the Vivs aren't pretty. Tannoys are a bit nicer looking. I'm a bit more for either against the wall bookishshelf size or corner if possible for an easy listening station.

Dark and colored isn't how I'd describe something like an Eico HF-81, not even remotely close. I'm not advocating Marantz, or some other lame old thing. I'm very selective. But I'd prefer to keep the power down so it's not overly dynamic for something that isn't a main rig.

Blow up the picture and see the look on her face, I believe he's going :p! She wants the pompous ass our of her seat!

The subliminal message of what the speaker resembles next to the female is hard to avoid.

I think I'll go before the feminist newspaper whack to the nose.

I think she has already walked away with half the system like they usually do. I see only one speaker

Tang be careful with putting on too much original vinyl, don't bend your back

Doesn't he just employ the army to move his stuff around for him when occasions arise? Or was it just an army of Thai guys... I forget.
