Hi

I realy wanted to see "Midnight In Paris" but ended up going to this one.. Long Story but that is what happened when because of a 10-years old you have to decide between Kung-Fu Panda and whatever movie ... :)

Surprisingly good. Not the botched Beginning movie that left most people cold ... FRom the get go the Director keeps a tight leash on the story. The story unforld smoothly and one is never bored by the pace which is somewhat deliberate.. You aren't thrown smack! in the action. rather it comes toyouas an almost necessity as if this requires some action to be taken ... There is a central character and it is Charles Xavier but surprisingly Mystique... Notwithstanding the question of how come she mange to live with Xavier all these years without any parents (mother is supposed dead) being shown in the movies including studying or simply being with him while he is studying in England , not clear what she was doing there but hey .. it is a movie ...
Then there is Magneto where his beginning become clear and his friendship with Charles Xavier ... The movie is placed in the ealry 60's and it flows from there .. A few anachronisms popped up .. Most people would likely not care but I am an audiophile so .. First there is a scene in which one of the actor (Xavier , I believe or was it The BAd Guy) used what looked like a Transkriptor Turntable or it could be a Mitchell GyroDec with something like a Morch arm.. No Way in 1962 .. No Way . Then in several scenes a Revox A 77 !! Which was introduced in 1967 ! Not in 1962 ...

Central character sustained the movie ... Only gripe the Bad Guy ,for some reason didn't look as bad as I would have liked ... Not believably despicable ... It looks like he would come out at anytime and change into a remorseful character .. not what I expect from a baddie :) .. Jack Nicholson as the Joker or the late Heath Ledger were amongst the best bad guys and here Kevin Beacon doesn't fully convey the psychopath character-type ... the way, he did it in The Invisible Man
Aside from these a very good movie, well acted in a most surprising way .. Good Fun and paked with action ..

Sounds like they were off 5-10 years. A Transcriptor table was in Clockwork Orange in '71 :)

Don't miss Midnight in Paris if you are a Woody fan

I will... Huge Woody Fan .. Have likely seen most if not all of his movies .. Still unhappy about the way he handled his personal life but it remains that he is one of the best cineasts the world has known.
Go See X-men very good movie

Ya beat me to it Frantz, I watched the movie last Sunday. I've always been partial to the X-men as a child. In fact reading the comic books was what made me interested in anthropology. As a long time follower of the comic books up until senior year at High School, the four prior movies were a HUGE disappointment for me basically they kept mixing up the ages and thus the relationships between characters. While First Class continues to mess up continuities, I think it is the best of the lot so far. Mainly because it captured in huge part the historical context in which the series was created. Uncertainty about the effects of nuclear energy first seen in Marvel with Parker being bitten by a radioactive spider, extended towards a general population. Most appealing to me then and now is how a general context was created to allow for character origins rather than individual far out stories for each one. Ultimately the series served as an allegory for racial, philosophical and political tensions. Something simply glossed over in X-Men 1 and caricatured in 2,3 and Origins. Marvel made its mark by showing human flaws in its heroes be it Spidey's naivete, Thor's hubris, Stark's excess et al. The treatment of the Magneto character in this film is by far the best I've seen in a comic book translation since that of Marv and Hartigan in Sin City and the Joker of Heath Ledger. While I think these three trump Magneto, I still think it the best since and Whiplash in Ironman 2 the worst. Seeing as Rourke played one of the best and one of the worst, I'm inclined to blame the director :)

Barring the continuity issues, the miscast Kevin Bacon and the absurdity, even for a comic book movie, of a fairy with fiery spitballs. I would recommend this movie for anybody that likes the genre.
