why all of a sudden the forum cannot handle a single normal i-phone 16 picture file size?

I experience the same issue with pictures taken with my Iphone: I cannot upload these since a few months or so.

I posted a picture yesterday with this size. If you click on the “circled i” information icon what does it say for your picture?

Hello, gentlemen. I do know that there is a file size restriction on photos. Steve could tell you the exact dimensions.

I have found this to be the case on many forums. It's either size, of file extensions not accepted....whatever the case may be, I have found a workaround that works on all forums so far. I use Microsoft One Note for a plethora of things (If you don't have it, you will need to download it ), and I simply copy the photo, put it anywhere on One Note and paste it. Then copy it from One Note and paste on the post you are trying to put it on.

You can mark it up, crop the photo if you so choose using "snip", highlight something, draw, rotate the image, whatever. FWIW.

So far, I have never ran into any issues with posting a photo this way on any forum. Whether it be extension or file size restrictions. Yeah, it's 4 extra clicks (unless you alter the image or mark on it ) but it works. I know some folks don't want to do any of this and I'm cool with that. I am simply sharing a workaround that I have found to work for me 100% of the time. That said, it's easier if cropping or altering the image on a laptop versus trying to do this on my phone (easy, if it's just a copy/paste, copy paste scenario ).

For those that don't want to use One Note, there are other apps that may work just as good. This one works for me, so I haven't researched into any other alternatives.

i went to my i-phone 16 Pro 'settings' -> 'camera' -> 'formats' -> and switched it from 24mp to 12mp for web uploads.

for file size it said that @ 24mp = 3MB......and @ 12MP = 2MB.

we will see next time how that goes.

Some websites will do the work to compress the image to the acceptable size.

The file size is often too large and sometimes needs to be cropped.I have had the same issue myself. The heif format usually is too large and the simple work around that always works for me is to save the photo from iphone to your photo library and then upload it to your post from your photo library. That works 100% of the time . Once the file was too large and I had to crop it from my library before uploading to the post . BTW I use the "attach files" button to upload . You can also use the "insert image icon"at the top with a drag and drop

that is how i was doing it for my i-phone 16 Pro. i was then going to the post and using 'attach files' as you describe. and the files were too big 4 out of 5 times. a few times i retook the picture; still too large. so i banged on it until i was able to crop it enough to fit.

not sure at what point i-phones went from 18mp max resolution to 24mp resolution. previous to my 16 Pro i had a 13 Pro and never had an issue.

i expect it to be fine now as i've reduced my files size from 3MB to 2MB by going from 24mp to 12mp files. have to switch back and forth for that as i do enjoy the higher resolution for blowing the pictures up.
