I think Stereophile? Wasnt there a column called Astor Place (which i presume was Myles')?

Astor Place was my ex's column in Stereophile. And yes, that was her diary of what it was like to live with an audiophile.

As far as mags, used to write for TAS, Audio Adventure, The Inner Ear, Sounds Like.... and one Curtco mag whose name escapes me at the moment. I also started two magazines, The Audiophile Voice (from at that time The Westchester Audiophile Society) and my own publication, Ultimate Audio. Presently, I contribute to the great team running Positive Feedback magazine, though not as prolific as I'd like to be. Sucks when work gets in the way. So I've been around the block a few times.

It is interesting that in our audio journeys, all people and places are intertwined.

It is in fact a big family for the last few hundred years or so.

I learned a lot from that lovely family, and I share a lot too with the younger generations.

Some people love the Arts, others History, or Geography, some become actors, actresses, presidents, others do reality shows, and then you have the wifes and children of musicians, audiophiles, and all that Jazz...
Materiality and sprirituality married together, electronics and dishes fill our homes, books, mags, fashion mags, car mags, audio mags, got read, and accumulate, references become our references, prologues and epilogues are fun, episodes are meaty, essence is always the real soup,
the consistency, the ressource, the source... the Music.

I'm happy to be alive and talking. Talking to you, with them, and about what we love.

Jazz At The Pawnshop - I know some have issues with it, but I like it!:p
I listened to that this weekend. Now listening to Lou Donaldsons Blues Walk. Got it for free...and decided to buy the SACD second-hand on Amazon to see what the hype is all about. Will post.

Actually, also decided to get second-hand MFSL Gold CDs of: Nirvana, John Cougar Melloncamp (Rain on the Scarecrow), April in Paris (Count Basie) and Hooker and Heat. And on XRCD: Dexter Gordon ( 'Doing Alright' as well as 'LD+3')

Again, will post.

Just for the hell of it I thought I'd throw this on my NVS TT this morning. Haven't heard it since getting the NVS..... wow! Not bad for a $1.00 Amoeba find!

Wanted to see how well this album was mastered by George Marino... read this interesting article at Acoustic Sounds http://store.acousticsounds.com/index.cfm?get=page&PID=516 So I cranked up an album I haven't played since I've entered into the High End arena...... this blew me away as well!

Having a blast rediscovering some great classics.....

Keith Jarret - up for it - ECM 1880
Shelby Lane - Just a Little Lovin'
Doug MacLeod - You can't take my Blues

So compared the regular Nirvana to MFSL and the regular Lou Donaldson Blues Walk to SACD version. In both cases, definitely better, perhaps by "20%" if that helps anyone. Instruments have stronger presence, more full/3-D sounding, better, deeper soundstage.

Memphis Slim, USA originally released on Candid 9024 and reissued by Pure Pleasure Records (smashing and must-have if you have the slightest interest in blues!!!)
Oscar Peterson: We Get Requests Verve/Analogue Productions 45 rpm V6-8606
Blow Up: Suzuki, Iso Trio/Quartet TBM-15

Sunday morning cuts....

Doppelkonzerte der Bach-Sohne - auf Originalinstrumenten - W.Friedman - Telefunken LP
Georg Friederich Handel - Orcelkonzerte Nr. 4 F-dur - A. de Klerk, Orgel - Telefunken LP
Rimsky-Korsakov - Scheherezade - The Chicago Symphony Orchestra - F.Reiner cond. - Chesky LP

Harry Potter - Half Blood Prince Soundtrack...this is truly a stunning, atmospheric, gothic, choral piece...and incredibly well recorded...audition quality.
went to work out...grab late lunch/dinner...now back to work.

with the sky pitch black (5pm)...moved on to Aretha Franklin - Greatest Hits

The Roy Haynes Trio featuring Danilo Perez & John Patitucci (stunning percussion)
Mark Murphy - Once to every heart
Shirley Horn - you wont forget me

...left over '05 Caymus Select from dinner :D
