"Sun moves through the album in a day-time-period (from morning to evening), in a year-time-period (from spring ritual processions to summer harvest songs) or it appears in storytelling forms as a mythical, humanized character - either being involved in the plot or, as an observer, silently watching events unravel.

Most of the songs do not belong to the “living tradition” anymore, and the album itself is highly influenced by ethnomusicological archival work.

Donja Jeka are: Marta Derejczyk (vocal), Barbara Majnarić (vocal),
Joanna Skowrońska (vocal), Sven Pavlović (bells, cymbals, prepared
guitar, harmonium, voice, pan)

Donja Jeka is a Croatian - Polish band, whose music deals with research and interpretation of older styles of vocal traditions. Searching for music’s own logic in traditional and contemporary conceptions, Jeka is trying to bring out their overlapping points and trajectories, with a reflection on music’s once applicable ritual function.
This is an echo of once more sonorous sounds."©

Annie A – The Wind That Had Not Touched Land

ambient, experimental

Annie-A-300x300.jpg
The Wind That Had Not Touched Land represents a brief flash in time. It may be that the five musicians who make up Annie A never play together in this form again, so the document that we have here is a record of a fleeting moment.
Annie A is a collaboration between French musician, writer and artist Félicia Atkinson, poet Christina Petrie, London-based duo Jack Rollo and Elaine Tierney (better known as Time is Away), and New Zealand/Aotearoa songwriter Maxine Funke. The far-flung geographical origins of the group is offset by a certain closeness, an intimacy that feels almost miraculous. ©

Xanthoula Dakovanou - Rizituals (Inspired from cretan vocal traditions of Rizitika)

1747119234_gjw3lr3mhgzja_600.jpg

RIZITUALS is inspired by cretan vocal traditions, particularly by the cretan songs of Rizitika, creating an extatic, female musical ceremony.

Rizitiko is an ancient vocal tradition of Western Crete, which begins in the byzantine era. A jewel of the greek immaterial cultural patrimony, this tradition is mainly unknown to the rest of the world up to date. Traditionally, it is sung by men, a cappella.

In this album we listen to rizitika songs about women in their different traditional roles : mother, daughter, sister, wife, mistress – but also an active search of the modern woman who seeks for her own identity, combining elements of the tradition with urban modernity, creating new patterns into the mondialization world that surrounds her.

The dramaturgy of the album captures this search, using traditional Rizitika melodies which are combined with modern orchestrations, incorporating female polyphonies with byzantine and medieval elements, traditional and western instruments but also experimenal elements and improvisations.
Reknown greek musicians participate, starting with the beautiful cretan voice of the singer Eugenia Toli Damavoliti, who sings with Xanthoula. Dimitris Sideris participates in the creative orchestrations and plays skillfully the cretan lute and e-bow, in a traditional but also experimental style. The talented violoncellist Sophia Efkleidou interprets the oriental traditions with a unique style and improvises on her instrument. Giorgos Zacharioudakis plays multiple wind instruments and Solis Barki colours the ensemble with his percussive soundscapes.
Xanthoula Dakovanou assures the conception, artistic direction and orchestrations of the project and sings, as well. ©

Experimental & World , fantastic release!

“Pili Coït is a remarkable act - fusing a range of sounds in a manner rarely, if ever, heard in contemporary music. Gloriously melodic with grungy guitar and fantastic split vocals, this is refreshingly unique and incredibly engaging” - SONIC ABUSE©

Lost Crowns’ first album was named by Stuart Maconie as one of BBC Radio 6 Music’s albums of 2019. This, six years later, is the second, combining the band’s furious lysergic intensity and flamboyant tonality with upturned jigs, shanties and hornpipes. ©

Interesting Japanese city pop, funk, soul compilation.
