What are your current reference speakers?

OK that was 105dB loud and came through with electrostatic clarity! Thanks! Am I in the club now :D

My reference is my custom modified MartinLogan Monolith III set and my custom designed and built SL3XC center speakers. Together with the active crossover rigs (DBX 4800) and custom Infinite Baffle sub in a totally custom-built room with custom room treatments, it definitely is better than anything else I've heard.

Cost about what my luxury car cost. But I spend more time in the 'seat' in the HT, or least, I used to before I did a startup.

Using a pr. of YG Acoustics Carmels with JL audio F110 subs (X2). Had these for about 15 months. Less than my car.

I'm running Legacy Audio's Helix. 3,500 watts per channel of amplification. I use three Coda amps, 2 CS and one CSX amps: one CX for the mid bass, one CX for the mid range, and one CSX for the treble. The built in subwoofers are 1,000 watt ice amps. All that power is not used to play the system loudly, (of course it will play at live levels!) but is used to have enough power to resolve anything the source material can throw at them. The dynamics and speed are incredible. They resolve details at low and high volumes. This speaker has he ability to reproduce a baby's breath or shake the room with the sound of thunder and lightening cracking. If you ever comr to the St.Louis area let me know and you can stop by for a listen.
The Coda electronics are what Bill Duddleston uses to design his speakers.

YG Anat III, signature studio, black. They cost a little more than my car. I doubt I will find anything better anytime soon, so I don't sweat it.

I use those utterly crappy Martin-Logan Summit-Xs that sound worse than a $500 Harman speaker. I'm sure if the MLs were an active speaker design, all the speaker's problem would be instantly solved. 'Til then, will just have to suffer listening to them driven by my cj amps.

Since I live in Manhattan, I don't have a car but the speakers do cost more than my bike :)

Jut to be fair, I don't think the M-L's in the Harmon test we all refer to were Summit-X's...

I have a pair of Aerius i's that I bought back in the early 90s which have been relegated to my HT system. I did have to replace the panels for a nominal cost but those little guys sound great.

Sure they would have flunked like every other non-Harman speaker.

If only Myles could have been waiting outside of Harmon and bused those "kids" to his house for a listen to a real audiophile system.

Isn't Peter/ack closer? :)

I have no reference speakers because I haven't heard a pair of speakers that perform a reproduction such as that of a live concert, showing or performance. Until then? I am still searching. Until then? I enjoy what I have.

Your reference speakers are what you currently own. It doesn't mean they pretend to be the world's greatest speakers, it just means they are your current reference.

Mark, the current speakers I own are nowhere near what should be IMO reference. They are just what I have that lead me to my own audio nirvana, which is what you are saying....kind of..........

I have not found a reference speaker. I'm sure most here haven't as well. Something close to real music? Eh, they may have something close. That's what I have. Something close. At least as close as you can get to the real thing. At that point or beyond, it becomes a preference.

The reference speaker I seek does not exist. Nor will it in our lifetime....at least IMO. Until then? I'll enjoy what is offered with today's technology.

Greg posted a video of the CLX being driven by Spectral the other day, at Overture. Those who can should take a trip and listen to that system. Although a panel will always sound like panel, the experience can be chilling.

Meantime, here's another set of fanatical ML Spire mods, with the crossover work inspired by mine...

Nice to see several others have these:

Evolution Acoustics MMThree's.

Cost me about the same as my car. Although, as Mike L. said, the current price is more than my car.

They are a little over a year old, if you go from the time I added the upper woofer to make my MMTwo's into MMThree's. I had the MMTwo's a year before adding the upper woofer, so Two Years total.
