wanted to refresh this thread.

bought two verteres per CKKeung and upgraded plugs to FI46Gold Male and FI50 Rhodium female, thought it sounded wonderful. and was planning on cutting them in 1/2 to make an extra cord.

and here's where the trick lies.

the male end is plug and play. the female IEC end has a bizarre grounding arrangement. firstly, each conductor is individually shielded, as is the entire cable. all shields are connected to the ground wire at the IEC end only. (in the photos, the green bundle is the ground wire, and the white wires are connecting the live/neutral shields to ground). this is counter to what i thought was best protocol, which is to connect shield at male plug ground end only. both cables are this way.

could be a mistake at the factory, could be best practice. all i know is the first one sounded good enough to justify a 2nd, and only then did i discover this shielding arrangement. so for anyone considering cutting one in 1/2, FYI.

Manufacturers won't explain everything to customers. They consider it their intellectual properties.
If you are happy with the original pc and have decided to cut it into two, following the manufacturer's config is preferred.

BTW, some soldering has to be done and please select the solder carefully.

got to try this cable (with upgraded plugs) against a shunyata omega QR-S on a switch in a very high $ / SOTA rig. the omega was better: blacker background, slightly better resolution. but the vertere performed *very* well and is a totally satisfactory cord in that application, at a fraction of the price. recommended.
