Is it overkill to get a top-league cable like a Wireworld Platinum in order to stream internet radio (and also some music files) from a Macbook to a DAC?

Depends on the DAC. The Macbook (or any generic computers) are just not so good for music.

Do you plan on ever getting a real server?

I have no immediate plans for that. That's why I think I should just stick with my Belkin Gold. I'm not sure if a higher class cable would show any sonic advantage.

A good USB might give a little sonic advantage. Its cost about $1000. I would suggest you get an endpoint like a Ultra Rendu or some used Aurender. That would be a leap in performance.

If your system is not revealing enough then it’s hard to hear any difference.

I have a PS Audio DAC which is a very good DAC. But I'm just not sure that a Macbook source is a proper match for a high end cable.
