Trinity DAC

Great stuff! How does it compare with Stahl Tek Opus Prime DAC and Vitus Masterpiece DAC?

Comfortably ahead , more refined ... Higher resolution , lower noise floor . The duo is a new and enlightening listening experience , lightening quick without ever sounding hurried . Ghostly transparent while never etched . For all its powress has a deep rooted musical soul . There are moments where the level of realism is plain unreal and all this from ordinary PCM, who would have thought .Feedingit via AES/EBU from the Opus CDT , yet to explore its USP ... It's USB implementation .

You were right...if that is your description...then "WOW!" is the right word!

Jazzhead, Elberoth,

Thanks again for that....I gotta hear the Trinity.

Just for fun, i have changed my isolation sandwich on my Zanden Transport...from 3 Ultra 5s underneath and an Ultra 5 on top...to adding 10kg of weight and 1 Artesania damping plate on top as well...so basically on one corner of the transport...directly in the same 'vertical line' starting with 1 Ultra 5s underneath the transport to maintain stability...it goes from the top surface of the transport: Ultra 5, then Entreq Receivus, then Artesania Damping Plate, then 10kg of brass (non-magnetic) weight.

The more and more still the transport gets, the tighter the bass, the more defined the voices, and the little 'snaps, pulses' on deep house electronic.

LL , I can concur on the improvements quoted above . It is at times easy to get carried away with the improving mids and bass quality . There comes a point beyond which the balance is affected . Namely ambience retrieval and and spatial cues . A case of over egging the pudding . Something to look out for .

Yes, i agree with that...in this case, i would have thought that the more still the Transport the better (in all cases?)...given that is job is to spin the disc and otherwise, not move? We shall see, and appreciate the warning...will let it sit there and go back thru albums i know well this week. My gut tells me its going to stay there, but i will test it out this week. thanks again for the advice.

Once experienced , hard to imagine being without .
Elberoth, thanks for the technical insights on what makes this DAC special .
Mike , your positive comments were helpful in pursuing the Trinity .
Has developed a level of purity and ambience retrieval that is very very addictive . You can open thrust levers or idle her and she will cruise with no loss of resolution , even at wispher levels . Uncanny !
The pre amp , didn't do as well fed from the Opus . Has the magic with its stablemate supplying it signal . Which brings to bear the question .... Has anybody heard the matching power amp . From gathered feedback , it is up there with the DAC or even maybe ahead ! Logical conclusion to an ultra low distortion chain , they work best with their own . Back to the music ....

Some tech stuff on the pre amp ......

Under normal circumstances most volume controls has an impedance of 10kOhm or
higher, that means the gain stage of the preamp, which drives this volume
control has to deliver low currents.

The Trinity preamp has a gain stage with 12dB gain, which drives a volume control
with a balanced impedance of 600Ohm. Caused by this special architecture the
overall gain is only 6dB.
Nevertheless to get 12Vrms out the internal voltage on the volume control is
24Vrms. To drive 24Vrms into 600Ohm needs a preamp gain stage with a lot of
current driving capability.
That is the reason why the TRINITY preamp gain stage consist of 12 parallel
connected single gain stages

Such a low figure is only achievable by the architecture of the volume control that comprises a number of cascaded, balanced ?-sections. A ?-section of this type needs a source and a load termination. For this reason, this type of circuit configuration is used primarily for high-frequency circuits. Since all impedances are matched, the driving source sees always the same load of 600Ohm independently which volume is selected. It is essential that the POWER AMP also sees always the same source resistance of 600Ohm, for the sound not to change or drop resolution with the volume setting

Whatever Dietmar designed, it must be world class. Dietmar is one of the very few audio designers, who really understands what he is doing.

Plus, he has state of the art measuring equipment, that very few companied have.

Fully agree , full chain now with A/C conditioner and cables . The upcoming speaker looks interesting , with adjustable radiation lobes in both the horizontal and vertical planes , to minimize room interaction .

Great feedback as well, Jazzhead. Thanks and look forward to reading more!

Dire Straits ... Private Investigations ... Screaming dynamics ... Think the whine of a Stuka dive bombing , scything thru the swathe with rapier thrusts leaving shimmering strands of silk afloat . Opium without the bong ! Better be off before they drag me away to the padded cell ... But I kid you not !

OKAAAY! Sounds like opium indeed! Totally legal...as long as your neighbors dont complain! Enjoy.

Thanks Jazz, priceless and poetic... wonderful to see you living and enjoying the journey to the full.

It's always a bit o' magic when a system gets to the competent level - once experienced, never forgotten ... ;) !!

BTW, Jazzhead - as post some hifi porn :)

Thanks guys , I am sure we all due course our journey come across these moments that are transcendental . So cherish these times we must . Happy Listening to the all of you .
