I found myself wondering, what would be superior sonically? A DCS Scarlatti with a Lina Clock, or a Bartok with a Lina clock? (Yes, someone who can afford a Bartok could likely afford a Lina easily, but humour me).]
Which combination would produce superior results? A "lesser" (Ha!) DCS dac with a superior clock or a Superior dac (Bartok, Vivaldi, Varese) with a clock from a previous generation? (Having a DCS, no matter what's better out there, this is pretty superlative.) And this from an experience of VAC Wilson WATT/Puppy/Sacha/DCS/Shunytata and the like. Not meant to be anything other than a chronicle of what I've owned, so that I am coming from a history of excellent equipment, so I am not coming with "It-sounds-great- so-it-IS- great" perspective.
This is not an idle question, although those are allowed. I have one DCS I've just bought but not the other. Not wishing to influence responses, I've decided not to influence anyone's thinking, in case one response causes me to rethink my "digital path." I assume the digtial processor is the "big" deal and the clock amplifies the qualities of the dac. Is that the case?
I ask this because I'm certain (from my time as a detective) that some people who are not zillionaries would like to know which will give them the DCS "mainline" experience ( a drug term meaning, "I was SO high off of it." For those of more innocent dispositions, it must means you practically had an orgasm when hearing it. (Actually, if you watched Hill Street Blues, you'd understand). If I got a lesser processor and I should have the "best" (not the best, that's a Varese. I'm WAY too old for a Varese. It will easily outlive me), I still have time to reverse my decision while still smiling about it. ' Laugh, fool. LAUGH.'
Tell me, O Oracle, which is the best path.
