The Tipping Point

Are we talking about the tipping point to mass market? It's at the source. iTunes doesn't even offer 320kbps at the moment. Everything else, except for CD, is extremely small niche market stuff. When lots of music is available in hi-res, we'll see. But given Amir's recent tests (and wow, that post sunk into obscurity awfully quickly...), it seems that very few will be able to hear the difference. Of course that doesn't mean they won't imagine that they do and pay dearly for it.

Perhaps if you read Amir's response more closely, it's clear that you're testing the test, not testing the participant.

You're going to have to use a few more words, Myles. We're not there yet.

Tim, do you hear the difference between Hi-Rez and RBCD or not? I'm not asking what you like better just if you do.

I've only had exactly the same recording and master in both RB and hi-res in my system a couple of times, and I've tried a couple of online comparisons and no, I didn't hear a difference, Jack. I believe some folks do, but I don't.

Fair enough Tim.
