R&D over many decades? Greed? Percieved value amongst the competition? Manufacturing and sourcing costs? All of the above and more?

Just checked, and 14 pounds of pure silver used in the chokes is worth $8,400 USD on the spot market today.

I've always wondered what the real sonic impact of doing transformers and chokes out of pure silver wire is. Electrically, it is different, but how different?

A number of MC transformers are silver, and of course the Audio Note and Kondo use in top end gear.

Can't you voice a piece in other ways that gets you there?

Lots of silver? "4-chassis with external Ypsilon manufactured silver wire wound 45 pound chokes"

EDIT: I see that @Tuckers can type more quickly than I can....

What drives a price tag of $230k? $230k? Holding a wet finger in the air?
Ultimately that's the profit that makes it that expensive ;):)
