The Dynaudio Arbiters are here

And are these fresh out of the factory? I believe they were custom colors...one of the first bronze finishes or something?...in which case, as I understand a loooong break-in is expected...during which time the speaker will be up and down and up again...and down again. or at least that is what I have heard. As long as it ends up in the 'up again' range...that's what matters in the end. Most curious to find out!!!

I also wonder if you end up with the Arbiters driving them long-term. Given what I have read about them, I would love to know what you think about having a pair of Zanden monos driving them.

I had heard a pair that's fresh out of the oven (driven by Clearaudio's Statement, Burmester 808 pre and 909 amp) and they are simply excellent. The Q7s easily make my top 3 speaker list. Despite just using 2 twelve-inch woofers per side, the bass quality is second to none and I can't imagine the performance if one were to add the Q18 subs in.

I too am intrigued by the ability to add the Q18 subs...that said, I still wonder if the Q7 on its own scales as easily, effortlessly and in as life-like a size/scale as the Arrakis 2 and Genesis 1.2.

I haven't heard the Arrakis 2 and the G1.2 yet. The G1.1s and the Pendragons are slightly bigger in scale than the Q7s but having said that, the scale of the Q7s is still very impressive and I can easily live with them.

Roysen

I can't believe the rollers didn't put a crease in your wood floor from the weight of the Q7....

Must be some pretty hard wood!!

The dice has been thrown! I have now sold my Soulution 745, my MBL combinarion, my Krell MRA, my Zanden combination, my Goldmund Eidos Reference and my Magico Q7.

My room sounds great. The room leaks bass like the walls wasn't there. This means there are no standing waves in my room. The problem is that I need a speaker with great bass output or a pair of subwoofers to get great bass. Otherwise I need to place the speakers all the way into the corners of the room to get great bass with speakers which have more moderate bass output. This speaker placement will screw up depth and stereo perspective from a lot of early reflections from the room. The Magico Q7 didn't have enough bass output for my living room. Unfortunatly. So I sold them. The new local owner will pick them up by the end of the year after a downpayment period.

My new speakers will most likely be the Rockport Arrakis 2 or the Rockport Altair 2 with 2x Magico Q-Sub18. While I wait for the new owner to pick up the Q7, I need to figure out what amplifiers to use with the Rockport speakers. I have the Dynaudio Arbiter and the Tube Research Labs GTR-800 are incoming. I could sell one or both of these and start from scratch. Since my room is a livingroom I need to save space to make room for Arrakis. Or I could keep the Arbiters and the TRL amps and try with the Rockports before I decide to move on.

My first choice for alternatives are Gryphon Colosseum Solo, darTZeel NHB-458, Soulution 701, Boulder 3050, Analog Domain Apollo for solid state or LAMM Industries ML-3, Zanden Chouku, CAT Statemeny, CJ ART, ARC Ref 750, VTL Siegftied II.

I wonder what to do about amplification.

Incoming is also the Rockport Sirius III turntable and arm with Lyra Olympos cartride. I have also bought a Transparent Audio Opus MM2 phono cable calibrated to the Lyra Connoisseur 3.0 preamps phono stage. I might recalibrate the phono cable and sell both my Lyra Connoisseur preamp and Tube Research Labs GTR Platinum linestsge to finance a new linestage/phono stage combination. My favourites would be LAMM Industries new top models, ARC, CJ, Aesthetix, VTL, Boulder or Qualia. There is also a Clearaudio Statement table and arm available. What table would be best Rockport or Clearaudio.

I wonder what to do here too.

A new brand from Asia has also caught my interest. They promise state of the art sound from their new phono/pre/power combination. The power amp is loosely based on the Horch Electroakustik Power Stage amplifiers. The Power Stage amplifiers are a continuation and improvement on the original Dynaudio Arbiter power amps from the same designer. Because of this my Arbiters can be modified internally to become identical to this new Asian design.

I hope to keep my Wadia source but I want to play SACD too. So a complete dCS Vivaldi set is in the works. If the Vivaldi sounds better than my Wadia on CD, I will sell my Wadia too and look into a music server. I am also intrigued by the new Espoteric Maestoso combination. I am thinking about the Audeeva Conbrio then or maybe Light Harmonic Da Vinci or Burmester 111 for music server.

I wonder what to do here too.

Cabling and racks and feet will be fine tuned after the components are here.

Any suggestions? I see little chance of going out to audition all of this, so I hope manufacturers, distributors and dealers see value in cooperation to demonstrate some of this stuff in my home.

whooohooo .... we love spending money , especially when it's not ours , am sure the suggestions should be flying in ... all great combinations , just a matter of synergy and some luck for that extra magic . On the Arrakis + amp combo , the Rockport is voiced with the Gryphon , so it's a tried and tested and relatively safe pairing . Why the Colosseum and not the Mephisto ? funds do not seem to be a barrier , or is the smaller footprint that attracts . All the best in your endeavours , good to see you active on the scene again .... cheers !

If only you were in my allowed sales territory, I'd gladly bring an Air Force One to you for audition. :(

and now for something completely different ;-)

Tnew speakers will most likely be the Rockport Arrakis 2 or the Rockport Altair 2 with 2x Magico Q-Sub18.

Of course I will not be able to tempt you, as the following suggestions are so diametrically opposed to the names - and associated sounds - you mention:

I would suggest Audio Consulting, both the Rubanoïde speaker system and their MIPA amps. I have not encountered anything more liquid and at the same time firm.
No affiliation.
And another speaker producer I highly rate: Sven Boenicke, here i have to add, that I am good friends with this guy. He does one big Orpheus which should really do it all (even though I find it too big, but judging by the models you name, you wouldn't)

But I thought, you mention so many american names; I should throw in some european material.

Good riddance and good search!

Hi Roysen,

It truly is great to see you back. And in serious action it seems. I don't think you will be surprised to hear my own biases and preferences fully support the direction you are taking. I am an enormous fan of the mighty Arrakis 2 and Genesis 1s...my two personal favorites of everything I have encountered. With the Arrakis, I find a lot of merit in the Gryphon Colosseum monos, and also in Transparent Opus MM2 cabing (given the fact that Andy Payor usse both Gryphon and Transparent Opus...just look at his website)...and the fact that Rockport speakers are wired with Transparent internally.

As you can see from my own system...I began pursuing a very, very comparable route as my 'Dream System' just about 6 years ago...and having just finalized the last bits of cable upgrades this past week...someday look forward to that fork in the road: Arrakis 1 (passive but with upgraded Be tweeter) or Genesis 1s.

Congrats on the new cabling Lloyd! All done for now? :)

Great logo/picture! Very nice. Yes, with the last Transparent RefMM (MM2) cable, I am finally all new Transparent RefMM (MM2) on Interconnects...just below Opus...fortunately, I managed to find all 2nd hand (but which was already calibrated extremely closely to my equipment.) I have been mixing cable manufacturers while looking for this last cable 2nd hand...so its nice to finally get it! I also replaced just 1 power cable for my CJ GAT from PAD Dominus to PAD 25th Anniversary...I only wanted 1 upgrade, and am perfectly happy with just this. A nice upgrade as well.

So that leaves speakers and speaker cables...and I am happy to enjoy and take my time...;)

Yes many American names BUT Gershman is Canadian and for the money they are pretty hard to beat for ( BOXES )

If I decide to stick with my TRL 800s on the bass on the Arrakis, I wonder how a pair of Atma-Sphere MA-3 would sound on top. Would the TRL amps sound slow compared to the MA-3?

I would guess so. IMLE with Atma's, most anything would sound slow against an one.
