And below is my current and anticipated setup, the unusual element being Germany's Elac speakers.

2 Channel. ZONE 1 - Mac mini [4RAM, iTunes, Apple lossless, optical cable] > Denon VCR-3310 > Chord Odyssey speaker cables > Elac FS 247 speakers [4 ohms]. Shortly to add: Emotiva XLR-2 poweramp + Audiolab 8200CDQ dac/poweramp with Locus Design Polestar USB cable and XLR connectors + Stennheiser HD 650 headphones. ZONE 2: Peachtree Audio Era 4 speakers [6 ohms]

I too felt left behind, ever since the early 1970s when my brother got married and left home taking with him his great hi fi system. I used what I had, which was focused on a pile of wonderful memories and music in various formats. From about five years ago I felt the rumble of digital media. Looking around offered little that I could see as plug and play. In 2009 I stepped accidentally forward when I began to transfer music into iTunes. I took that seriously, building the meta data in it. I did it again, after stumbling onto the realisation that I had not ripped in a lossless format. So there's been a lot of such mistakes and learning along the way. Finally I pulled the trigger in December 2010 by acquiring a Mac mini, Denon AVR-3310 and the remarkable Elac FS 247 speakers. I'm now on a treadmill towards finalising this system which I hope will take me forward this decade.

I've never done what you have. I'm still spinning cds up to now.

Best of luck on the final touches of your system. Enjoy the journey.
