If the improvement is as great as that reportedly of the 1200G over the Mk2 and even the M5G and the Japan only Mk6 then SP10 lovers should be in for a real treat.

I'm getting my first units of the 1200G this week (Technics US severely underestimated demand for those), but even the $1700 1200GR is mighty impressive.

Yes, that's what Bob said. So much better. Good thing I rarely spin the iron wheels these days else I'd be getting a pair of them. Feedback from a friend that does is that one needs to be careful with the brushed finish. I said it might be a concern for DJs like him but it shouldn't be an issue for the typically careful by habit home listener.

No kidding  I'd heard the new 1200 was good, but was skeptical. I'm hoping the new SP10R might stimulate Mk3 availability. :p

So a digital giant goes analog. To bad the damage is done.

Applying $2840 (1989 dollars) for the SP-10 Mk3 tt, only, no plinth to CPI Inflation Calculator for July 2017 yields $5579 current USD. D**n -- sign me up!

I hope you are right Sam. I think that inflation calculator is a little off when it comes to high end audio though.

Haha -- we've got DoD $$$ on some high-end audio...sure enough! ;)

Albert Porter has a lot answer for:cool:

Great to see a multi-national put its' manufacturing might into something that is remotely affordable.

So far as buying one - 'I can resist anything but temptation...'

Wonder what it will cost? Also wonder if they improved on the technology any? Bet it will be North of $10k

The 1200LTD was $4k, so I bet this one will be $10k or over.

Still, compared to some uber-epensive TT available on the market today, it may be an interesting option. You need to factor in the plinth though.

I wonder if the vinyl craze is due to a desire to preserve "physical media."

Exciting times! :) If (when?) Technics discloses the technical specifications of its upcoming new Sp10 model and provided they meet or surpass the Technics Sp10Mk3, then indeed we will all have reason for rejoice...! As soon as I read the official Technics Sp10 announcement and witnessed the photographs, the urge to approach the drawing bench sketching a fresh plinth design, from the ground up could not be ignored.

I just noticed the original Technics SP-10mk3 TT go for over $10k on ebay !

Costs of $7500 - $11000 per unit for original factory stock Technics Sp10Mk3's is not uncommon. Hence the reason why properly finished and implemented bespoke models are rather costly.

Wonder what it will cost? Also wonder if they improved on the technology any? Bet it will be North of $10k

Assuming its a no holds barred effort, it will likely not come cheap.

My hunch, judging solely by the Sp10R's platter coupling method (ie. 3 center machine screws) as depicted in the press photographs, is that this model will likely represent a modern, updated version of the Sp10Mk2 rather than an attempt to build a modern Sp10Mk3 juggernaut. From a manufacturers point of view, this may be a far more logical business strategy.

I've invested in a SOTA air platform.
So for me if I get this new SP-10R, all I hope to have to add is a simple inert slate plinth, and there are plenty of bespoke outlets that will do this in the UK for under £3k.
0.0015% flutter, if this is Real World, equates to less the 0.2s over a typical 18mins side of lp
That's incredible.
Technics need to be pricing this closer to $10k than $20k.
I'm holding off my final final tt purchase until this one shows the light of day.
Could work brilliantly with a Schroeder LT or Thales Simplicity.
