T+A M40 HV Review

I have the full HV stack 2+ years now, and super loving it [M40HV, A3000HV, PS3000HV, P3100HV, SD3100HV, PDT3100HV]. The engineering that went into this is quite impressive, and I have had great support from the team here in NA and in Germany whenever I needed it.

Paired with Sonus Faber Liliums, and Acoustic Signature Montana NEO turntable with DS Audio Master3 cartridge and phono preamp. All supported on Finite Elemente rack and platforms.View attachment 154755
Which mode do you prefer? High Current Class A (60 watts Class A) or AB?

Currently, it is configured with High Current Class A, since I am bi-amping the speakers. The stereo amp is setup to drive the super base posts of the speakers for tri-amp configuration.

What I find interesting about T+A's M40 (and I seriously considered them) is the people I have spoken with prefer A/B over High Current. T+A recommends HC for critical listening. All my listening is critical. All my previous Amps have been A/B, until now. I have the Gryphon Mephisto and I don't think I could ever get away from pure Class A. I couldn't see myself toggling between High Current or A/B.
I listen to Classical and Jazz exclusively, some pop here and there maybe sometimes... so critical listening is super important to me, especially with great recordings (Qobuz Streaming, SACD or LPs). I would say HC bi-amping is the way to go for this.

Very nice setup. I also listen to Classical, Jazz, Opera, Blues. Not much Pop. I have an eclectic pallet. I'm not constantly glued to the chair. It depends what the agenda is for the day or moment in time. Sometimes I'm at the Bar which is off center a bit, but if something really catches my attention I'm like a magnet to the "chair"...

I recently upgraded to Gryphon Mephisto Solo's. Class A is difficult to unhear. You have a very interesting setup. I imagine its sounds splendid...

The Gryphon is awesome too I bet. I debated over a year with what to get for the ultimate system for me, I skipped the McIntosh as quickly as I heard of T+A and even considered Burmester, CH Precision, Nagra, .... etc. Glad I landed with T+A as it sounds awesome for a relatively small "less than optimal" room that I have 15ftx15ft. I am glued to the center seat when I listen, with a select "glass of inspiration" of the day, makes me forget how much money was dumped into this hobby! ;-)

Yes, Gryphon does it for me. I will soon list the Mephisto Stereo Amp. I had Gryphon completely go through it from top to bottom. Not cheap! know exactly what you mean! Interesting obsession is putting it mildly...Enjoy!
