Stromtank Battery Supply / Sine Wave Converter

Aziz, there's a fellow w the new Magico M9 who is using FOUR Stromtanks, NONE for the power amps. That's four units to cover sources and preamp.
I doubt that a fellow with M9 has the same criteria for choosing equipment as myself:) I know a guy locally with 2 Techdas TTs, Vivaldi stack, CH L10, M10 and WA Alexx V, he has 3 top Stromtanks in his system. When I told him that I have my doubts about the smaller Stromtank affecting dynamics, he just told me to get the bigger unit. The fact that the S2500 is twice as expensive as the smaller model is of little importance to him.

Excuse the obvious Q, but...why?
Why does any system require multiple Stromtanks for varied non power components?
Just how much energy do DACs, servers, tt motors, phonos, preamps use?
It's surely preposterous a $20k battery is only suited to one piece of gear.

He uses one Stromtank to power each of M10s plus another one for all the sources, quite logical.
In my case, the phono (Io) is like a class A amplifier: it consumes 350 watts, that is why I may need a bigger model. If I switch the Io off, the indicator barely moves from the 12 o’clock position.

Interesting, the HK owner using four Stroms in his M9-based system found they didn't help w his Goldmund monos.

(...) I had a nagra pre amp on batteries once and never again
Why? I also owned the PLP and had a great time with it. Unfortunately it did not have a remote!

High end audio is a luxury industry .
If the people have the basic things like source amps speakers whats left to sell ??
So a whole accesories industry arose to fullfill all " audiophile needs " .

Shiny boxes , arm thick cables , cable lifters and a whole lot more .

" Stromtank" sounds german , made in germany always sells well off course :)

I am also sceptical about using Stromtank to power amps. But I heard clear improvement with the sources.

Its all about personal standards micro .
My last show visit only strengthed that opinion

If my opinion on Nagra was based in its typical show performance I would never had owned it - due to the local distribution arrangements it is seldom presented in adequate conditions.

But I would not say no to hosting the HD preamplifier and amplifier to overcome such listening sessions. ;)

Most things that audiophiles hear is " something different "
It doesnt mean its nescessariliy better.

What i heard from all those powersupply add ons is restrained dynamics .
Where it would hurt the most is certainly for the power amps
You may be right:) What is it that you‘ve heard with a Stromtank unit that made the presentation worse?

It depends on people mains, that can be very variable and amplifier type. Yesterday I measured the mains impedance in my future location - less than 50 milliohms, with less than .5% THD. Probably I will not need a regenerator.

However some friends of mine could benefit from them , as their mains was instable and had high THD. As they say, nowadays the system always sounds like weekends at late night.

If, as many people have, we have an amplifier that is always in class A mode, what is the problem of using a proper regenerator?

I use a regenerator on my sources and find it makes a highly significant improvment.

Yes, but if you get a different and very variable sound quality with an extremely poor mains quality we are inclined to think there is an improvement with the regenerator

I can easily spoil my good mains and never got an improvement in sound quality doing it. Some audiophiles tried it, even just using the old PSAudio multiwave regenerator and at the long term most concluded that we preferred the pure sinusoidal.

I would say that if you notice the sound is significantly better at a given time of the day (usually at night) then you are probably a candidate for power regeneration, battery etc.

If you don't notice any changes at different times of the day then likely your power is pretty stable and clean.

I have noticed pretty large day/night differences and so found a big benefit, particularly during the day, when using a regenerator on my sources.
