RateYourMusic to the rescue!
For folks with an open-mind (and a Tidal/Qobuz account at hand), rankings of best albums by decade

1980s
1990s

And here too:

Lotsa fun to be had :)

i guess my only comment is that any all-time album list that has Radiohead #1 and #2, and has Kendrick Lamar at #9 and #17 has zero relevance to the dimension i live in. really? my mind is open but not empty.

quite a commentary on current musical tastes. no wonder i like my classic pop, jazz and classical.

not that those lists are not valid as a road map for exploring those time periods. so i see the value of the information.

Mike,

That's weird. Maybe it's because I'm a member and actually rate albums on that website, but my list is different from yours. Radiohead is #1 and #8 here, and (fortunately) there's no Kendrick Lamar anywhere on the first page.
I abhor rap/hip hop, so I've probably given low ratings to a low of those titles...
The other cool thing about that site is that they have Top 100 lists for genres too. So you can check Top 100 Post-Rock albums, Shoegaze, Grunge, or, if you're feeling particularly masochistic, Hardcore Hip Hop:)
Of course I also do love my Classical Symphony, Hard Bop Jazz and Pop Rock!

Ah, got it now. I see the same stuff you did then... I didn't knew you were referencing the "All Time" chart... That chart is, of course, skewed the wrong way, as the sites' public must be overwhelmingly young. That Kendrick Lamar album for instance has as many ratings as Talking Heads "Remain in Light", and *gasp* 4k more ratings than "Kind of Blue".
Anyway, I have never found a "Top xxx" list than I fully agree with, and these are no different :) Just a good data point during my routine musical explorations :)

cheers,
Alex

and i agree if you hold your nose a bit, and just use the 'era' segments, that your lists can show you possibilities to investigate. but the 'junk' factor is extremely high on that site.

which is why i never pay attention to the Grammy's or any pop awards.......so......much.....useless.....junk. dumbed down to the extreme. i just poke around Tidal or Quboz and do my own investigations. and your list can show me titles to check out.

We are the frenchies. To come out with with the best digital.

French Standards be like...

French making the best cdps? Well, those guys owning Neodio, Audiomeca and YBA would agree. And me w Eera, the best bar none.

You forgot the great sounding Metronome's! ;)

Yes, the Micromega Stage's. Very nice sounding, they used a series of Philips mechanisms that were lubricated with an inadequate product that would dry and make the laser skip. I had to clean and re-lubricate mine with their service kit using two different greases and helped a few friends doing the same.

TotalDac and AudioAero and LaRosita to name some more;)

Francisco, the French have never been known for their reliability.
My Citroen DS21 is a total emblem of French chic and post-WW2 hothouse engineering...but you can never TOTALLY rely on her. That said, my Eera has been good for six years straight now. Even my Marantz SA-1 from 2002 was showing issues after three years.

The €55k JMF 3.7 universal disc transport looks Da Bomb.

You forgot Audio Aero...first with their Capitole series and culminating with La Source and La Fountaine ...these are great sounding players.
