Stack Audio Auva 100 isolators

Quick question about using the Auva speaker isolators. I have carpet in my listening room. Would it be better to install the isolators with spikes or to put a platform on the carpet and place speakers with isolators on top without spikes? Certainly would be easier to make small adjustments if the speakers were on a platform that could slide around.

What’s under the carpet? Spikes couple rather than isolate, so if the floor is concrete then you can at least try spikes through the carpet. But if you have wooden floorboards over a cavity then that might not be the best idea.

Wooden floor on the ground floor of the house.

The general advice would therefore be not to spike through.
Good to know. Do you think it would be better to just place the speakers on the carpet with the AUVA isolators without the spikes or to put a 3/4 inch plywood sheet or marble slab or something like that for the speakers to sit on? My assumption is it probably won't make a difference either way with the AUVA's on the speakers.

It’s hard to know for sure without comparing. I believe the idea of the particle-filled Auvas is to let speaker vibrations turn into a small amount of heat, rather than taking the compliant material approach of say Isoacoustics. A thick carpet will introduce a little compliance of its own so I guess in theory a low mass plywood sheet would make no difference but a heavy granite slab might.

Good luck

Any reason not to reach out directly to Stack and get their advice?

My personal experience is it depends on the sub floor type under the carpet (wood vs. concrete). However like with anything along these likes I think you'd need to try for yourself.

If the SQ is close between the two - I agree with you I would prefer NON-spike for the east of tweaking the speakers.

I would recommend putting them on a slab.

My Vienna Acoustics Concert Grand Reference speakers are on carpet. I opted for a granite slab sitting on the carpet and then my Auva 70s on that. The reason is simple - with the triple spike configuration that Stack Audio has on their Auvas you can't really turn the footers to raise and lower the speaker like you would with a single spike.

This is a big deal because I have found that having the speaker completely level (using a Digi-Pas device) makes a huge difference. I would never purchase a spike or foot that wouldn't allow me to make micro adjustments to level my speakers.

I heard back from Josh this morning regarding using the spikes or putting on a slab. He strongly recommended using the spikes. He said they do not recommend putting anything between the Auva's and the floor as it would reduce the effectiveness of the Auva's.

That's understandable as general advice but surprising re spiking into floorboards. Hey, Josh knows his stuff so who am I...? Trust the man.

Auva EQ's came in today and I love them! I thought my system sounded good before the Auva's but now it is so much better. More detail and clarity, better bass and much cleaner sounding. It just sounds so much more natural and right.

My integrated amp was on the factory feet while my DAC and Streamer were on brass footers. I noticed an improvement on each component. Sounds strange to say but I did notice they got better with some time. At first they sounded pretty good but I wasn't blown away. Then after about 15 minutes it started to sound quite a bit better and a couple of hours in my system sounds amazing! I am getting a slightly deeper sound stage that is more 3 dimensional.

Once they have their subwoofer footers out I will order a set of those along with the Auvas for my speakers.

Adding to this conversation, I received my Auva 100's recently and placed them on my Legacy Audio Focus XD speakers. My system sits in a corner of my basement in an area I etched out 25 years ago and built a 14" x 18" listening room. I have a multitude of room treatments. I am listening now to them for the very first time today. I put them on the speakers yesterday and just let them settle. This morning I went down there and fired up the system and played music on them to help settle them while I went on a morning bike ride. After getting back and showered, etc I sat down for a listen. I played a few reference tracks first. Then I played Pink Floyds Momentary Lapse of Reason streamed through my Aurender. Holy Moly, what an enormous soundstage and bass response! These Focus have a prodigious amount of bass, well controlled and not boomy at all. The Auva's made it even better for sure. If you need to check out the bass on your rig, give that album a spin. Anyway, the sound is even more detached from the speakers, better defined in many aspects and just a pure joy to listen to. A nice improvement to my system for sure. It was pretty good before, this is icing on the cake. I also have the AUVA EQ's under my Aurender, Terminator 15th, Legacy Wavelet and Coda Amp. I had those first. I like the system refinement I am getting now.
