Saturday October 11 at Bending wave USA in Boca Raton, Florida come meet Grant Samuelson from Shunyata Research as he demonstrates and explains all the new "X" technology in their power conditioners, grounding devices and all the new power and signal cables.
I hope to see and meet some of you there. Elliot

That's a good question however one that as of today I do not have an answer. I will be doing a Shunyata event in my store early in October so maybe I can find out then.

Has anyone compared the Everest to the new Puritan 1156 NFR, a couple guys in another group said they felt it best the Everest…
I have both the Puritan 156 and the Everest 8000. While the Puritan 156 measures better than the Everest 8000 using a Greenwave EMI tester by a small margin (average of ~50mv on Everest vs ~30mv on Puritan), the noise floor sounds much lower with analogue components running through the Everest 8000 with resolution and coherency of music much stronger with the Everest. I currently run all analogue components through the Everest 8000 and digital through the Puritan 156 each on their own dedicated home run 20a circuit to further isolate digital from analogue. I would expect the Everest X to take performance level even further beyond the Puritan 156 and expect to upgrade my 8000 if and when that option is available.

i am not referring to the standard 156, this is the special NFR edition

My journey to improve and understand the issues regarding a digitally based system have gone on for a long time. I now totally believe that the issues with digital are very different than those that exist with analog. I am totally digital for a long time so I have spent my efforts trying to improve upon what I have which is some of the best gear available.
Digital IMO suffers from noise pollution. The noise comes from various different places. There is electrical noise, there is internet noise, there is noise generated by the gear itself, there is cable noise and probably some interaction noise that may exist.
By addressing these ,in my own way, and with some assistance by others that know more than I , my system has improved and improved at times beyond what I thought was possible.
Much of what i was hearing and thought came from the amps, or the room etc. wasn't that at all. Much of what I think many dislike about digital and its potential glare or hardness in the midrange can be removed or made less/better by addressing noise being inserted into the system.
You can question by words or my gear or my methodology , this is WBF after all home of the semantic keyboard warriors, but for me I have gotten significant change and quality results. Its my system and that is all I can control not the opinions of those who are not here.
Changing my electrical foundation brought extended clarity and solid placement and images with extension on all planes, I would call this the basis to start . BY upgrading the switch and ethernet cables I brought more purity into the system and eliminated the garbage coming in which allows one to hear more of the recording , the upgrade in the grounding really improves focus and timing of the music, its more dimensional with better spacing between the notes.
Is there more noise that can be removed , damn if I know now, but the process was fun and very rewarding. I thought I had good elements in place and that I had gotten the noise out, I was wrong.
I am sure or I would hope that other companies are working on some of these issues but in my recent installations and listening with clients many of the components that were upgraded showed that the noise coming from the old gear was a far bigger factor than any of us were aware of.
The initial comment from the clients were almost the exact same choice of words pointing out that the new stuff was far less noise

This has been exactly my own experience and I have been working on eradicating ‘noise’ for 10 years now and finally feel that I am pretty much there with it. Noise is the catch all term that I always use because it exists in many forms and I’m too lazy to define them let alone fully understand it all. But I can hear it. I recall a few years back going to a concert and being shocked by the clarity of the visual experience and the stunning effect of the lighting system - and then it struck me that since my last concert attendance, smoking had been banned in venues and that was why the visuals were so stunning. Previously, I had been watching through a cloud of cigarette smoke and I would equate the reduction of ‘noise’ in our systems to be the aural equivalent of a gradual reduction in smoke. The less smoke there is, the more clearly you can see the real picture.

A main factor in my own noise reduction has been the reluctant acceptance that power cables and conditioners are an important part of this process and my experience has been that power cables are the most important cables in my system. I run power on an Everest 8000 and associated power cables and am currently trialing the Everest X. I hate the fact that these things can make such a difference - it’s far easier to justify expenditure on a shiny new device, far less so on a power cable that sits at the back.

Anyway, I have to say that the Everest X is a beautiful uplift in sound quality and a definite step up from the 8000. I don’t like spending money on these things, but when it sounds so good, then I just have to accept it.
