I just installed Schnerzinger Resolution speaker cables and Interconnects in my system and thought I would share my initial impressions. The short form-significant improvement- these wires are as good as advertised and I'm very pleased.
I started from a good place. As I've remade my system with Gideon's advice, my enjoyment is at a different level. The Zellaton Plural Evos have been the greatest leap forward and the Burmester amplification and new vinyl rig (Reed Muse 3c) are wonderful. My cables were Nordhost Heimdall 2, not the top of the Nordhost line but not lamp cord either and I was already very pleased before the Schnerzinger wires appeared. So, I wasn't sure how much better it could be.
My early assessment is that the improvements are substantial and varied. I've had a chance to listen to a lot of my favorite music-some really well recorded pieces and some not so well engineered and all of it sounds better. Nardis is a great track-wonderful music and a nine minute workout for your system (I know its cool to hate on Patricia Barber, but I don't). What I hear is this:
1. Improved soundstage, particularly depth.
2. Piano strikes could previously be a touch sibilant, not terrible, but there-that's gone, replaced by a completely natural sound, no hint of artificial etching
3. Better imaging and instrument separation- this really comes through on complex orchestral pieces
4. The music pops from a quieter, blacker (an audiophile term I hate) background. This is immediately pleasing.
5. A more natural tone, without sacrificing detail
6. Hard to describe, but the music has more gravity, maybe tonal density is the phrase. The sound is more tangible.
Each of these improvements represent readily discernible advances and, taken together, its a really substantial gain-more than I expected. I'm far from a cable expert and I know there are many choices at all price levels. For me, these Schnerzinger cables deliver the goods. I don't understand how, exactly-maybe they are woven from Secretariat's mane- but they work.
Lastly, these cables seem to be a superb fit for my system. Synergy, as they say. This has been quite a journey. I was actually pretty happy with what I had before taking the first step with the Plural Evos. I've reached a completely different level of enjoyment and its been a great experience. One measure of how good it is-I'm headed to the track today, which I've been doing for over 50 years and love. A degenerate horse player some say. I find myself wishing I was staying at home and spending the afternoon with my music. That's saying something for me.
