Scaena install

Good question. All I know is the largest model, the 1.4 is the one I heard and it was terrific. I heard it with VAC amp/preamp

The Scaena have an isolated enclosure and better xover components. The allows the driver to react to just the electrical signal with less mechanical interference.

Interesting quote from HP from the Scaena website: ".. the bass isn't just well articulated, it also has sharply defined tautness and transient punch...". How much of this is due to the speaker vs. the Scaena sub-woofers/ amplification used?

In my system, I am not using the Scaena preferred bass amp QSC-RMX4500HD. (Scaena mods this amp to work in audiophile environment by using a quieter fan). HP was using the Burmester amp. I am using the CJ MF2500 with a pwr supply mod (better wiring and ps caps). I have the Scaena's new bass drivers and they are fast and integrate well with the mids. I do not wish to have the orchestral impact in my studio so I am happy in giving up impact for musicality and coherence. Using the CJ prem 8XS (with teflon caps) and the MF2500 for the bass is an extremely nice combination. The mids on there own do provide the tautness that HP was referring to.

Now due to my experience with the Audionote Amp, I will have to get a SET amp for the Scaenas. I wonder how well an Cary 805C would work with this speaker.

Do you hear a substantial difference between the QSC and the CJ? On the subwoofers?

The QSC provides 800W and the CJ is 400W. You can pick up a that QSC amp for $1150. Naturally, the QSC will give the kind of impact that will impress at audio shows.

Sunny did the installation at my studio and was quite impressed with the CJ's output in terms of rhythmic bounce and sound. The CJ is a great amp. At the same time, I guess I am audio snob and I do not want pro audio gear in my system no mater how practical.

The CJ is a great amp for the subs but one will not be able to use the Scaena x over. When using the CJ amp with the Scaena xover, there some very strange low level sounds that are not part of the music. There was a lot of investigation into bal. connection vs. RCS connections as the root cause and I spent a lot more cash then I needed too. Thankfully, I found that the Pass X over eliminated all of those issues.

I am a happy camper......now!

George is an absolute gentleman. I met him at THE Show several years ago when he had a tube DAC on display

Sunny and Alan Eichenbaum, the other Scaena principal are both terrific guys too.

I use the QSCs btw -- if I get around to comparing to something else, I'll post.

These are amazing speakers - what struck me the most about them was their ability to throw an accurate stereo image - even to the far left or far right of the speakers. I heard them at Axpona...simply amazing!

I'm still thrilled with them and in fact have become a dealer for them. I find they do things I haven't heard from other speakers and the new Raven tweeters up their game further.

Here's an install of the 18 mid/4 woofer setup:

I heard them at Axpona in Atlanta and was blown away by them; surreal sound-stage --- BUT they were in a ginormous meeting room in a hotel so I have no clue what they might sound like in a reasonable sized listening room.

My room's roughly 13 x 22 and they work well. I've got the 12 mid driver model which is the smallest. I've heard them in a room smaller than mine and thought they sounded great.

WOW! Beautiful...Congrats!

I believe Scaena is exhibiting at THE Show this weekend...uncertain which loudspeaker, though
Amplification may be through VAC :p
I've read positive statements regarding Scaena and BAT from previous shows. ;)

They'll be there, it'll likely be the 3.4 setup -- 12 mid driver towers w/4 woofers. It'll have the new Raven tweeter array too which is outstanding. They've been using CJ amps lately, but don't know whether that'll be the case in Newport.

Recently heard a six woofer setup which was insane.

You got it Jack.

More than 4 years from the last post in this thread. Apart from the Avalon Saga (to be introduced this month....), Scaena (I think 3.4 would suit my room just fine) speakers intrigues me the most. Any updates from the last post on current digital crossover and power amps that drive subs? What power amps is Scaena using now? Is Pass crossover still the way to go?

It seems Scaena is more US oriented firm as I never see their speakers on audio shows in Europe or elsewhere. That is a bit strange for a producer of such a caliber don't you think?
