Robert Koda Takumi K15 Preamp

Hi Guys

Can I find out what you got with your k15ex; how was it packed in the box and what documents came with it? This is what I got today from the distributor and it really shocked me!! A few photocopied pages and the preamp just packed loose in what seems to be the original box for the K15ex as well. Is there a flight case that comes with it? Very concerned

Hi...the reason the unit does not fit tightly within the foam...is because there is a stunning steel flight case missing...the most beautiful one I have seen of all the audio flight cases we own/have seen. Plus there is a black felt pouch inside with the 10 (gold plated?) shorting plugs, a bound brochure in a super-thick clear plastic cover.

Will do mate - Have spoken to Robert on the phone and he sounds nice and genuine. He has told me he will get to the bottom of it. Seems like a flight case is missing in the shipping just the unit shipped *naked* . Robert confirms there was a flight case for the serial number....wonder why the distributor decided to ship it otherwise.

Thanks LL21 - just my luck........ i now have a unit that is damaged on the outside with dings and scratches, found a few loose pieces of plastic and washers on the inside when i opened it to be sure it wont catch on fire when i plug it in. I am such a lucky lucky fellow,. Distributor here ( australia) insists the packaging i got was the original packaging that he got ie no flight case....hope it is not a deadend. Somehow somewhere after spending a whole lot of money i am caught in between....this is not what the experience should be!!!!!! lol at least i am still alive with covid around me while working as a doctor i guess....crapola

Send it back to ZenSati and insist they order you a brand new unit and ship it to you in the factory packaging.

<sign> plugged it in after work tonight and it still works - good sign i guess. the sound is amazing as everyone has described. pita everything that has happened. Will see how it can be resolved. Still can't get over the shock of the packaging, i must be the only pigeon in town to buy an expensive component and had it packed this way , lucky me. Kharma balance it out for me pls! lol.

If it was me, my boot would break social distancing rules.

The joke of course...Plasmod3 could rebundle his K15 in the self same shoddy box...it falls apart, and HE'S liable.

As a new but big and growing fan of Robert Koch and Robert Koda the remarkable brand he founded, I will say you I am going to bet you will find Robert to be on top of this. He truly takes pride in his work, and it would not be over-egging it to say he clearly wants every piece that goes out the door to be a masterpiece. I cannot tell you how many emails he has responded to from me regarding all manner of questions as I wanted to learn about his work, designs, ethos and of course all the technical suggestions about operating his preamp. And he answered every single one of them carefully, thoughtfully patiently and with inordinate technical skill, knowledge and pride.

That said, I am also now very happy that Absolute Sounds ended up taking the brand forward in the UK just as I was trying to make up my mind about importing/buying. The purchase was literally flawless. I ordered, the order went in...Robert confirmed he had received it from Absolute Sounds practically the day my order went in. I was updated when it nearly done testing on the bench, then when it got shipped, and it was literally delivered the next day after it arrived at Absolute Sounds, installed...and voila the music was on 10 minutes later. That is service. And of course, it was not just Absolute Sounds, it was my dealer who has looked after me for all these years on practically everything I have bought...even when the item I bought was 2nd hand and not from him. That is true service and a loyalty that runs both ways from customer to dealer and back again.

Here is a photo of the Robert Koda flight case for the K10 I found elsewhere on WBF. You can see the velvet pouch, and inside is a proper bound manual, and (with the K15EX) the 10 XLR shorting plugs if you decided to use the RCA inputs of the preamp. On top of that, what is harder to see is the quality of this flight case. I have seen close to a dozen or more from various companies over the years, and we have at least 4-5 for the system today. As they say in the UK, this one is 'the business'. Extremely solid, and very high quality feel to it. The edges are very solid, very thick...but also very smoothed off. Like a proper suitcase more than a commercial storage unit. You could place it down on a polished wooden floor and not be [too] worried you would nick and scratch the floor up. I would not say that about the other flight cases we have from the system which are all very robust but are not like this one which is closer to furniture or a suitcase in how well its edges are finished and polished.

Was your's delivered in a flight case, Lloyd?

Absolutely. It was beautiful. So opening went like this:

- Big double or triple thickness cardboard box arrives...it opens only a certain way with instructions on outside.
- So you place it a certain way, the robust flap opens a certain way.
- You lift it back and the foam inserts which are GLUED tightly wrap around this solid flight case.
- You lift the flight case out, and again, the unit is tightly held within the inner glued form fitting inserts of the flight case.
- On the inside of the lid is a glue black velvet back with bound manual and the [individually wrapped] 10 gold plated shorting plugs.
- The bag of shorting plugs was so snugly wrapped in there, when i pulled the manual out, the bag of shorting plugs stayed in the velvet pouch...and i emailed Robert to say i could not find them!

This was a seriously high quality packing job. Probably the best I have seen from the standpoint that it was super-robust...but also the flight case is so nice, you keep it and are very happy to store it away.

Hi Plasmod3,

On a more positive note, great to hear it is working well. You have one serious system already...how does this piece measure up in the context of your system?
