Onkyo joining High-Res download services

We (Microsoft) helped them launch the Japanese service many years ago. Did not realize they were entering the US with it. Thanks for the post Lee.

$37+ (USD) for a 5.1 FLAC download? Good luck with that!

That's YEN money, not USD.

ACtually, the article does say 3000 Yen or US $37.50. That is consistent with the ballpark range of hi-res downloads i have seen from time to time (i am a 16/44.1 guy so there could well be cheaper sources). it is also consistent with many of the hi-res SACD remasters, etc. Not that i purchase those either unless its for something 'special'...i tend to buy second-hand CDs from Amazon for 3 bucks each.

Sorry, my wrong. ...Seems rather expensive though.

I'm sorry, but that pricing is way out of the ballpark for me. I see no reason why hi-rez DD's have to be that expensive. Hell, I'll go a step further and say I won't pay that price for a digital physical purchase, unless it was OOP or something extra-ordinarily superb.

What hi Rez needs is a major, coordinated marketing effort (that DVD-a, SACD never got) and this has to come from the hardware/software manufacturers. it's a good sign that Onkyo and hopefully others might take it on, but the pricing shoots any such effort in the foot, even for the few hardcores like us who don't need to be sold on the idea. It's such stupid short term thinking to price that way.
